Decided to abandon Sydney's wet weather and head toward the red centre.
Took some happy snaps.

Great shot. I'm a bit confused about the whole picture. Is that the earth shadow in the back of the rock and the sun is setting/rising to the left of the picture right? Is this like a 360 wrap (in width)?

Thanks Marc....
It's a 360 degree horizon shot.
The (nearly) full moon is over the rock, the sun has just set (far left or right ;) ) with the Earh's shadow slowly rising above the rock.

 Got it now. I thought the bright point was Venus. That confused the hell out of me. Wrong side of the pic :P

Very nice indeed!
Did you make a QTVR from it as well?

Wonderful, would be a great poster for my living room.

Thanks, and yes I did do a QTVR! ...but with a 2400 pixel cube face it's not web friendly. The full sized panorama is around 7500 pixels wide.

For web I found Pano2VR quite good. You just drop the MOV file on it and it can convert to Flash 8 or 9,10 SWF file with adjustable quality.
Here is a recent one:

Very pretty shot Alex! What lens did you use for the Panorama?

Thanks, I did this one with a 10.5mm Nikon Fisheye with the hood shaved for a full-frame camera. It gives about 200 degrees of usable field so I only needed 3 shots for full 360 degrees. Final pano is only 4000 pixels wide but stitching only three images together is much easier.

Awesome! I got a similar pic to the west on sunrise at Mount Kosciusko this Australia Day. That's impressive mate!

I love the shot really good. At the risk of confirming my self as dumb could someone please explain the title of the Belt of Venus.

The purple, etc, colours on the horizon at sunset are referred to as the Belt of Venus (http://users.tpg.com.au/octane2/johc.html).

A humble thankyou indeed for those who have responded so positively to this image.
Ayers Rock....as it was called when I went to school...or Uluru... is not exactly an easy place to get to.
Even when you do tick that box, it is quite difficult to get to a good/unique vantage point...as the locals and "PC police" have made even photographing the bugger quite difficult.
...quite odd given that this ancient piece of geology pre-dates any human claims/sensitivities....but I digress.
Suffice to say, I ignored quite a few signs :D
