Last night was cold and clear here with reasonable seeing but the moon was quite brights so I imaged Tarantula Nebula in NB.

I checked the collimation of the 8" RC and set about imaging my target.

I collected 50 minutes of each Ha, OIII and SII. Combined with CCDStack and adjusted in PS CS4. I'm not overly happy with the image as yet and am attempting another few hours tonight.
All subs are 10 minute exposures taken with QHY9 Mono with Baader NB filters.
The image is quite noisy and I am hoping the extra exposure will reduce this noise a little.

The second image is a compile over 2 nights of 10 x 10 minute of each Ha and OIII and 20 X 10 minute of SII with a total exposure of 6hrs and 40 minutes. Hi Res version HERE (http://www.darkskyau.com/cm/displayimage.php?pid=257&fullsize=1)

The third image is colour mapped Ha red, SII Green and OIII as blue.

Thanks for looking.

Doug,

So much detail, excellent work.

Only a dificult target because it is so busy with clusters and nebulosity all built together. Worth the effort David although usually disappointing because there is so much detail to try and coaks out.

I may be looking at it from a different perspective but I am having problems in the core area with the cluster and cannot seem to resolve it well. Thanks

Thanks Trent, detail is reasonably easy in NB but colour balance is something else.

Good one Dougie but unusual colour did this one last year with the RC check my website with focus etc spot on fairly easy to resolve core

Great Details. That central cluster is real tiny. I reckon you did a good job on it. Totally resolving it is another game though. You'd need some serious FL to do that, not at that image scale I reckon. You'll also need a lot more Sii to get that red through. Sii is a killer. Top shot though. Real nice indeed

Well I suppose it doesn't matter how you align your channels, you are still getting some amazing images Doug. I love em!
