I've got a GSO laser collimator that I haven't used in a while. Recent collimator threads reminded me to get it ready for sale, so here it is.

It is the standard 1.25" model as sold by Lee Andrews, just like this (http://andrewscom.com.au/images/products/telescopes/accessories/gs_collimator.jpg) one.

It is in slightly used but very good condition. It has a few rub/scuff marks but no scratches or dents. The cheshire screen is pristine. I've removed the laser warning sticker, which is probably illegal but it interfered with my V block. The collimator has been hand collimated by yours truly today to < 2mm at a distance of 12m. It is on the original set of batteries which still worked today but will eventually need replacing.

I'm asking $40 plus postage (pick up welcome), which is a third off new price.

Cheers
Steffen.

Bump. Anyone?

This is a very decent piece of equipment, and well collimated.

Cheers
Steffen.

Hi Steffen,

Can this laser eyepiece be used to collimate refractors?
Have you ever done this? I've only got a cheap pastic chesire that came with the scope.

Also, I just noticed you bought the AOE 80ED telescope. Did you say you didn't want the alt-az mount? How much do you want for it?

Cheers mate,

James

Hi James,
the collimator is for Newtonian scopes. It's based on the principle that the laser beam completely folds back on itself and hits the exact spot where it came from.

I don't think it would be terribly useful for collimating a refractor, but at least you could check that the beam exists the objective lens square in the centre. I guess for refractors a laser with holographic attachment (like the Glatter ones) would be more practical.

Regarding the ED80, I bought it without tripod and mount, to save on shipping. Just contact Dave, he'll be glad to get rid of it.

Cheers
Steffen.

Dang it, Steffen, I'll buy it. Now I only have a 2" laser, I get caught sometimes asked to help someone with their scope and it has a 1.25" focusser! PM coming. Eric
