Blue Mountains itinerary

The family and I are heading up to the Blue Mountains after xmas (27th-30th of December) for a small holiday..

We're staying in Echo Point, not far from the 3 sisters I think.

So, for those that live up that way (Chris, Rob, Narayan, etc), can you list some things that we could do while we're there?

Planning to do the Scenic World stuff (skyway, railway, walkway), probably the zig zag railway, visit the 3 sisters of course, I also want to go to Wentworth Falls and maybe the Botanical Gardens at (I can't remember the name of the place).

Hoping for some good photographic opportunities, as well as some fun and interesting things for the wife and kids.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Happy to drive up to 90 minutes to get to a place.

I love going to the Blue Mountains, been three times in the last year and a half. Twice to see the Leura Garden Festival and bushwalking and another time solely for bushwalking.

Although I don't live in the area, I can tell you about some of the places I went to. The gardens you are probably thinking of are the Everglades, it costs about $6 for adults and $2 for children. I've been there twice now in the spring and it's a very nice garden - very big too. Plan to do a lot of walking in it. Great photo opportunities. Lots of azaleas (mainly azaleas), australian bush etc.

Are you planning on doing some bushwalking? If you do, the Leura Cascades is a nice easy bushwalk. We took a few kids on that bushwalk and they had fun. There is a waterfall that runs the length of the walk - not stunning but a waterfall nonetheless. I can't remember the other bushwalk we did but I do remember that it was a lot harder but it had a good view of a plunging waterfall. It was hard because there are sheer drops left, right and centre, not a good place for kids.

The Wentworth Falls Lake is a very pretty spot for a picnic. There are plenty of ducks to chase after :) It also has a swing set for the little ones and toilets nearby. Also nearby is this little cakes and sweets store (across from wentworth falls station) that a friend told me about who used to live in Wentworth Falls. I haven't tried it yet but she said they are absolutely scrumptious. If you try anything from there, do let me know how the deserts are :)

I agree with Silvinator, Wentworth Falls lake is great little spot for a family picnic.
Just up the road from me is Kings Tableland an ancient Aboriginal site, believed to have been occupied 22,000 years ago, quite an easy walk and great views.

Of course a visit to The Kings Tableland Observatory may be in order, about 10mins walk from my place.

The 27th is the only day Ill be around, but the iceclan are welcome to come round and have a feed anytime, before or after you check in. Then depending on the time maybe pop up to Kings Tableland. PM me.

More suggestions to follow up but in the meantime surely you have to include a trip to Jenolan Caves..and if you can fit in a dirt road detour then Kanangra Walls at Kanangra Boyd National Park

one of ny absolute favourite places and its only a short drive from Jenolan caves..quite spectacular

Hey you're getting out my way now! :D If you are heading Jenolan way and you are into a bit of history, try Hartley: convict built buildings, etc. Good meals at Mt Vic pub and the Hampton Halfway House. The Hydro Magestic is an interesting place to have a poke about from a history point of view, but food and drinks are pretty xy. Great views from Govetts Leap - as are most other lookouts, but they are probably some dirt road. The other tips previously mentioned are all good too. If you are after a bit more adventurous bushwalking, I can make some recommendations...

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I checked the paraphanalia i've got at home already from the tourist office and from the place I booked, and it turns out we're actually staying for 4 nights, not 3! heh, it's been a while since I booked and I'd forgotten! :)

Saw lots of good stuff to visit, looking forward to it!
