Couple of processed shots from SPSP2010

Hi Guys, here's a couple of pics I just finished stacking from Friday and Saturday night at the SPSP. I just brought my ED80 and let it shoot all night in 2min subs and 5min subs.

First is a deepshot around Alpha Crux (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/AlphaX_ED80_ff.jpg), second shot is the Tarantula and LMC (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/ngc2270_ED80_ff.jpg)and the last one is one of the panels I did around Rho Ophiuchus (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/RhoOph_ED80_P5_f.jpg).

Some nice and interesting results there Marc I like the Rho shot, always looks good when you show the dust.

The colours look a little drab though and maybe red biased..? Vibe this up a bit and they should look better I recon.

Three nights in a row huh?...and I didn't bring my rig :screwy: Last time I had that at Wiruna I stared at Centaurus A the whole time :D

So this is what was going in that observatory tent while the owner was off boozing and sitting in front of the fire :lol:.

Good work Marc, like the others my favourite would be the Rho Oph panel - really nice.

I'm not happy with the data I have looked at so far but haven't spent alot of time going through it, I'll get there at some point.

Thanks Mike. :thumbsup: Yeah you're right, definitely on the red side and a bit flat. Due for a repro :P. Must be the side effects of the "Pinot Noir". Thanks Trev ;). Mate I still can't believe you didn't bring your gear. Skies were pretty cool. It's like being on a diet and waiting at the bus stop in front of the chocolate factory. :lol: How did you do it? Hope you had a great time looking through all the big dobs though. :)

Thanks Wayne. Was great catching up with you. :thumbsup: The red lights were on in that tent but nobody was in there. It is a decoy. ;) I was mostly with MBJ next to his 16" dob eating his crackers and drinking wine or browsing around the field checking up on the other rigs. That field around the house was as packed as it can be hey? I heard something about people at the observing field on the other side asking "where is everybody?" :lol:

Thanks Matt. Nothing compared to the superb galaxy shots you took. :eyepop: They were already looking good on the laptop screen when you captured but the processing is gorgeous. :thumbsup: That Titan/FSQ106 combo is a winner. What a beast.


Oooo yeah! It was great David. Shame you couldn't make it. Everybody had a ball. Big happy crowd. Clear skies were a plus.

nice work marc.. glad to see you got some time on the rho oph region.. i hope you think it was a good idea now :-)

the rho region is also pretty tricky to process, from both a contrast and colour point of view. Your colours may not be far off, but accurate colour isn’t necessarily the best! When you get to your repro, I’d boost the contrast a bit as well.. the darkest dust lanes can be quite a bit darker than you have them currently. That’ll make it a bit more punchy.

Was great to meet the ‘real’ Marc at SPSP.. not surprisingly, your real personality is quite different to online.. (something about that french accent and attitude!;)). You are clearly a very talented imager and have given me several good ideas to think about.:thumbsup:

Not wrong there. Mine's flat as (not in a good way :lol: ) Was my first go at it and not the last. I'm dumping M8 for Rho Ophiuchus now. It's official. Waiting eagerly to see your masterpiece of the whole area though. I'm getting those sunglasses ready. :thumbsup:

Thanks Frank. :thumbsup: No worries was great chatting with you and checking your monster 10" astrograph. It's good to hear you went home with a lot of subs in your bag. CCDStack takes some getting use to but after a while it grows on you. It just works.



You're way too kind Tom. ;) Not 100% happy with them and I'll play again with the data to bring a bit more contrast and less red. I think each scope produces data that needs to be processed differently. The ED80 is a small aperture and I definitely need to work a harder to bring the light and colors back in the processing as it looks muted. I've been bad and lazy for too long only doing Ha with the hyperstar which is as simple as it gets to process. :P

I went for a walk around the imaging house on the Saturday arvo, there was a Titan set up there!! Not many around at that time of day, next time I'll walk up during the evening :-)

Saturday arvo we would have been on the other field. The titan was Matt's with the FSQ106. He posted his wonderful shots here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=61339). My tent was the green one not too far next to Wayne's next to the shed.

Hi Marc, can you or anyone identify the small red nebula below Alpha Crux, just over half way to the edge of your image. I couldn't find anything on The Sky6. Your image shows it well.

Yes Lester, I have another older shot on my newtonian where it appears right on the edge of the field. No idea what it is. Some Hii region or planetary? Maybe a narrowfield target for Fred as it looks real tiny.
