View Full Version here: : Leo Trio completed!

Here's my completed Leo Trio image (RGB added). And don't worry, it's a 'G' rated image ... there has been no artificial galaxy relocation done that could offend some viewers. :P :D
Scan around the full res version to see the background galaxies present! Pretty happy with the resolution I achieved - I lucked out with the seeing (between 1 and 1.5 arcsecs) when I was gathering the Luminance data! Some minor cropping done for composition purposes.
To get an idea of scale, M65 (bottom) is approx 9.7 x 2.8 arcmins in size

Marcus, what can I say, except fantastic shot!!!:)
The details in the trio are exquisite. If you can get that with a 6" tak, I'd love to see what you'd do with a bigger scope, say a mid sized CDK or RCOS.
There's some weird ones amongst those background galaxies...some have pretty distorted shapes!!:)

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout! Great field. A delight to browse around. Very nice colors and a lot of faint fuzzies picked up in the whole vista. Top stuff.

Thats a wonderful image, well done. At least 9 thumbs and 1 chocolate nose (the ultimate accolade).
What did you use to get to F11.7?

Hey thanks Mike! Aaah, if I could only get seeing that good all the time <sigh>
Thanks Dave.
Thanks jjj! Very glad you liked it!
Aaah yes, an RCOS or CDK ... I confess I do get a bit of the fever sometimes! :)
Thanks Marc - glad you liked it! (Pssst ... I also did an artificial field version ... I can post it if you like. ;) )
:thanx: :)
Thanks Lars - I use the Tak TOA 1.6 extender. It does vignette and doesn't yield a perfectly flat field, but nothing a bit of extra processing won't fix.
Thanks a lot Chris! It's great to see an image get that sort of reaction!
Gotta admit, I kind of surprised myself :D Thanks Greg!
Cheers Roger

Well, I don't think I have used this emoticon before but it's a good one for this effort Mark
Looks pretty well perfect to me. Yeh, the seeing may have been good but you have nailed the resolution processing on this one for sure, congratulations

Thanks mate - high praise indeed!!
Congrats on the three glass bricks from SPSP too!! Well done!
Cheers Humayun. Glad you liked it! I think I'l be hard pressed to get any more res out of the 150 though. But I'll keep trying! :D
Nah, that would spoil a perfectly good astroimage :P
Thanks Enrique!!
Hehehe, thanks Martin but I'd be perfectly happy to be compared to, say, a 20" RC :D. BTW did you see the partial hubble image of M66 here (http://www.universetoday.com/2010/04/08/hubble-captures-distorted-beauty-of-m66/)?

Cheers Fred! Have I moved anything? Hmmmm ... what do you think??
Thanks Peter. l was pretty lucky to score such good seeing in these parts but I knew the ol' Tak would come through if given the chance! :)
Hey, maybe some eyepiece projection and I can give "extreme closeup" Fred a run for his money!
Cheers Alex!
Thanks for that ... and I think you may be right! ;)

Thanks Jase!
Yeah right! Wonder how much it costs for an hour or two on Hubble  I doubt I'd enjoy it though - just press a button and hey presto a diffraction limited image from a 2.4m mirror ... no challenge at all :P
Thanks Rowland
Cheers Mark, glad you think so. I have seen a couple though ... that get close :D;)
Thanks a lot Phil. Amateur images get better and better each year that's for sure! Hopefully, seeing what a modest aperture can do will spur others on to do better! That's certainly been the case for me.
Thanks a lot Rich - glad you enjoyed it! It's very gratifying to get comments like this from folks for my humble efforts - much appreciated! :)

You used to be able to put in proposals from amateur astronomers for time on the Hubble. I don't think you can anymore. Pity...

Amazing detail from 6 inches of aperature, thats pushing the equipment to a very high limit with a great result. Most impressive.
