Hi all
Thought I would show an example of the sort of pics I hope to be getting next year.
This one taken with a Nikon 85mm at F2.8 with an Sbig ST8i and 6nm Ha filter.about an hours exposure.
At the moment trying to get a 180 F2.8 ED working very sharp but hand focusing is bugger , anyone know where I can get a rubber belt to connect a jmi focus motor to the focus ring of the 180:help:.
If you like the look of this image check out John Gleasons web page , makes anything I'm doing look like crap . Mind you he takes his time , usualy 7 or 8 hour exposures but its worth it .
Ive got the lens etc riding on top of an LXD55 that came with the SN10 for a mount that looks like it was made in the dark and sounds like grinder it has better PE than the G11.:confuse3: ideal for unguided widefield pics .

btw Eddie do yo still have that printer I've been thinking of an upgrade and looked at the Canon and an Epson R1800

Most printers have a stepped belt, to drive the print head horizontally.I used to use a stepper motor to drive a belt to focus (see pic). The advantage being you could take a series of exposures and then get back to the same step number ie position.I now use a canon angle finder C which works just as well.

But the one thing I can't find is a belt that wont stretch.
I have the motor etc

Printer belts don't stretch.

Hi Zane,
No I sold the printer a while back.

As for belts, you might be lucky at a Bearing Service outlet. I was bretty amazed at their range of belts and O-Rings. Might be best if you find a suitable standard belt then make a bracket to suit, rather than go the other way and find that you made it just outside a standard belt size :)
