View Full Version here: : IIS - The Early Days
Mike
What was the official launch/ first day IIS appeared on the ol' dubbya-dubbya-dubbya????
Are the original first-ever forum posts still "viewable".
Would be kind of cool to view these "historic" first postings.
Thanks mate

Thanks Steve.
And remember guys, it's ok to link to those old threads but please don't resurrect them (don't reply to them).
IceInSpace Forums were launched on the 9th September 2004, and the site was launched about a month before that.
reading old stuff is fun :)
thanks for the oportunity to revisit matt :)
Mike
I reckon there'll be some really interesting reading in there.
Be great to go back and view the questions asked and answered about imaging and maybe benefit from the discoveries and breakthroughs that were made as you guys went through the processes a year or two ago.
I'm sure you were all confused and confounded by the same things many of us just starting out are experiencing?
There'll be a lot of good stuff in there that maybe should be resurrected for noobies?
Cheers

Are you reading this, Houghy? :poke:
Mmmmmmmmmmmm....
Not quite what I was lookng for, but fun to see those early posts none-the-less.
Where are the early, tentative first forays into imaging and the initial flurries of information exchange????:confuse3:
Maybe they don't exist. They were never written?
Maybe you guys already had some of it figured out before the forum came along?
hey matt, we have olny been around for a bit over a year. imaging has been around for years more. we gained 500 odd members in 1 (one) year! we have just grown really quick.
for some really early posts try the forum at astronomy.com.au that where alot of the early members here are from :)
Ving
I obviosly failed to make myself clear. Apologies.
What I'm after are the early post on IIS of techniques etc
Maybe what guys were talking about and questioning 12 months ago?
Cheers

There were discussions back then Matt (mainly from me and my dob based imaging!) but not to the level (or standard) that there is today.
I can tell you there's much more relevant and useful information being pumped out today than there was a year ago, so I wouldn't worry to much. Just ask questions, there's heaps of people who will come through with some suggestions and answers.
Mike
Not meaning to labour the point, but the level those discussions were at back then is what makes them attractive. A lot of the same questions and issues that many of us less "evolved" creatures are facing now.
It would just be interesting and no-doubt useful to be able to trawl through those and find our own answers from among all the threads.
Not that I mind asking question in the forum. The problem is, and it's ironic, that the answer that comes back can be a bit over the heads of we lesser mortals.
Do you understand what I mean?:o
The answers that get posted can sometimes assume a shared amount of knowledge, which we (I) may not possess... and leaves us with more questions than we started with...:confuse2:
Just thinking out loud, mate, and just curious to see those earlier posts to compare notes and see what was revealed when guys were at an earlier (lower) level, or standard.
By the way, received the latest issue of AS&T. Well done Mike, and all the IIS members featured inside.
It's great to see IIS so well represented.

Just do some searching then..
at the bottom of the thread view, you can see 3 dropdowns:
- Sorted By
- Sort Order
- From The
Just change the sorted by to date, in ascending order, and it'll show you the posts from the very beginning. Just do that in the solar system forum and you'll see all the early stuff.
cool.
I'll give it a shot in the way you suggest.
I've tried before to get back to the beginning but for some reason failed to get there???
Thanks mate

Yes, great stuff..When I first joined IIS I spent a long time reading thru most posts from the beginning...makes me wonder what happened to some of the early members though.

As far as I know Asimov...I think Paul(1ponders) have them all locked up in his under ground dungeon....and just feeds them one a week.

Once a week Tony? geez! I can remember being in that dungeon for laying down some spam & he only fed me once a fortnight!
Paul! That's favouritism! I'm an unhappy ex-dungeon chappy!

Brings a tear to my eye
The first posts were not that long ago really, but it is interesting to read them again. :)

Matt,
you will find that 80% of the early posts are Tony (Striker) buying and selling stuff!!!
