Here is the famous reflection nebulae region on the border of Ophiuchus and Scorpius.
Hopefully the link works......:(

The link works just fine Tom :)
Wow - what an image. The detail is so great you can almost "see" shockwaves moving through. Beautifully executed.

A fabulous image Tom. I imaged the same area about a month ago with an AP140 and 155tcc and PL16803 almost exactly the same gear. Interesting to note the different FOV of the 2 setups.
Except my one I mislabelled the Ha filter as green and the colour balance is slightly off. Due for a reshoot of the green and maybe a mosaic. The area is worth it. You seem to get excellent seeing there at Moorook.

Great work Tom!
Incidentally, the town of Moorook is very small (with a population of only 289 in the 2006 Australian Census), but my mother was born there, and spent all of her childhood there! And I was born in Berri which is just a few km down the road. I was never into astronomy back then, so didn't appreciate the wonderful seeing!
Cheers,
Stephen

(very) Minor critique would be the magenta cast around the stars.
But perfection everywhere else....sublime.... as usual Tom!

Tom,
Oh, my goodness. So dark and gloomy. I love it!
I imaged this the other night using the 5" refractor and the 5D Mark II. Looking forward to processing it.
Excellent work, as always.

very impressive tom..
i've just got about 20 hours of data from three nights at SPSP on mosaics of this region through both a 200mm lens and my Epsilon 160 but i know the result won't look like this!
i'd be interested in how you determined the colour balance for the final image. i've tried G2V star calibration previously but on a test shot of this region last month i ended up with colours that seemed way off to me? what's your process?

and another one if i can be so bold.. what software are you using to plan and figure out all the object IDs in the field.. ie. C 4603-6, B42, B44, vdB106 - 107

I generally use G2V calibration and then adjust from there. I also use gradient removal plugins on most of my images, but this likely alters the G2V calibration. You may want to try Bob Franke's eXcalibrator to see if it helps your colour balance. I have not used it but I know that many of the "big" astroimagers use it. http://bf-astro.com/eXcalibrator/excalibrator.htm
For object ID and framing I use TheSky6, Desktop Universe, Aladin, Wikisky.

Once again thank you everyone. This really is the friendliest, most neighborly astroforum on web.

Thanks Tom.. I use TheSky6 for scope control and especially mosaic planning but will need to learn to use its databases at a deeper level. Will have a look at eXcalibrator and the other data sources as well.
Keep sending us your very inspiring work!
