I just opened the latest AS&T Jan/Feb issue which arrived today by post.
Wow a free Hubble DVD included on the cover and a writeup by Mike about IIS.

Havn't had a chance to go through it yet but looks like another winner.
The US version didn't have a DVD, so well done guys.

:)

PS Congrats Eddie T on your double page image of NGC 3132, as always, beautiful shot.

I actually did receive my copy today, it was hidden under the bills!

Had a flick through, looks like a nice issue again.

New forum member Reg Johnson got letter of the month (congrats!)
Zac Pujic has a nice image of Saturn (from last apparition) on page 48
RocketBoy has a nice photo of the partial lunar eclipse on page 53 (and again on page 69)
Bird's amazing Mars images from Snake Valley are also pictured on page 53
John Drummond has some nice comet images again, as well as an article talking about his observatory move, which features Robby in one of the pictures :P
My article is on page 73!
Zac Pujic also wrote a nice obituary for Erwin van der Velden on page 77
There's a group shot from QLD Astrofest 2005 on page 85, and I can see Paul (ponders) and his famous hat on the right hand side, as well as h0ughy, astro_south, jjjnettie and more :)
Eddie T has a brilliant shot of the eight-burst planetary on page 92.

Congrats to all that got their stuff published.

Some good stuff to read in there, tomorrow!

My subscription has expired so I'm going to have to go to the shop! Can't wait to see it.

As a note of interest, the eight-burst planetary pic was taken as an IIS challenge shot. If not for the challenge, I probably wouldn't have taken it....yet...so thanks to IIS for the inspiration!

Nice to see Australia Post delivering ahead of Wednesday's appearance in the shops - even Mike got his the same day most Sydney people did. Mike - your first published article in a magazine?

For those who are puzzled, "Jan/Feb" is the period in which we account for publishing 11 issues a year rather than 12. Yes, we published 12 in 2005, our launch year. There will be 11 for the 2006 period (which is what we say in the magazine, and on our online schedule), but our aim is to step up to an ongoing full 12 per year in the near future.

Enjoy the DVD!

I will check the newsagents on Thursday when I go into Ballarat. Hopefully they will have one left. I either get the only one they order or it's the last one each time

Congratulations to Adam Marsh for getting the Meteor section up and running. ;) Pages 62-64

For those who heard my Leonids talk at Snake Valley. That was Adam Marsh getting over excited on the tape

I have not caught up with Adam for some time but we have great memories of that morning in 98 ;)

Well done mate. :)

I watched the Hubble DVD this afternoon. Very informative and well put together.
The Gallery section in the menu was disappointing. The pictures kept on moving so you couldn't actually get a good look at them.

Cooooolllllll!!!!!!!!

I managed to get into Ballarat today and I purchased a copy of AS&T. What a great issue!

The DVD is incredible! I zipped it straight into the DVD player earlier tonight and was mesmerised! Stunning pics, graphics, commentary, blah, blah, blah!

100 points to the makers of it and 200 points to AS&T for including it with the mag.

I picked up my copy today from a news agent. I havent finished reading the last issue yet, but Im looking forward to the DVD! Looks like another great issue, well done AS&T.

I checked out the write-up at lunch Ice, well done. Have you noticed any extra traffic since the issue came out?

ps. AS&T guys: I would have liked to have seen the screen shot taken in Firefox or something other than IE.. yuck! :P

how good is this - two great mags (one of which comes out once a moonth!) never dreamed aussie amateurs would be so looked after! another excellent issue from AS&T - so many highlights! Con Stoitsis's letter is great - so true :), tribute to Erwin (in both mags) a meteor section, to many to mention, bilberry juice...

Thanks Simon, and yes, most definitely more traffic.

I think we had 6 or 7 new members the night the mag arrived at subscribers doors. And it's been at least 3 or 4 a day since then!

Already half way to the next hundred milestone!

Ah thats great news! It was definitely some good coverage for the site. To any new members who read this: welcome. :)

You will have to keep up your typical new comer question Mike; "how did you hear about us". :)
