All,

For sale is my beloved 5" triplet apochromatic refractor.

I purchased the scope from Gilman of North Group in September of last year and it has been well looked after. There are a couple of markings on the dew shield from where I stuck some sticky tape and Blu-tak to affix cotton thread for diffraction spikes, but, these can be cleaned off easily with a cleaning solution. I will clean these up before the scope is bought.

Some of you may know that it is pretty difficult to purchase this scope at the moment due to there being issues with eyepieces not coming to focus with the supplied focuser. For those of us who indulge ourselves in imaging, this is not a problem -- this really is an imaging scope.

The scope comes with the supplied heavy duty aluminium case, the scope mounting rings and a dovetail. I also bought the illuminated finderscope and this is also included (three parts: finderscope, finderscope holder and finderscope collar which is already attached to the scope). Furthermore, I also had the telescope shipped with the advanced focuser. This focuser was an improvement over the initial release. It holds the weight of a 40D and a 5D Mark II DSLR without a problem so long as you tighten the locking bolt quite well. Something like the Hotech camera adapter would be a better solution for keeping things square. But, if you're careful and attach the camera properly, you should have no problem as the images below will testify.

The Sculptor (NGC 253) in Sculptor (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Cootamundra/Cootamundra_20090920_Sculptor.html)

The Diamond Cluster (NGC 2516) in Carina (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Belanglo/Belanglo_20091113_NGC_2516.html)
The Orion Nebula (M42), de Mairan's Nebula (M43) and The Running Man Nebula (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Cootamundra/Cootamundra_20100109_M42_M43_NGC_19 77.html)
NGC 4945 in Centaurus (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Snake_Valley/Snake_Valley_20100313_NGC_4945.html )
NGC 6188 in Ara - Mark II (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Snake_Valley/Snake_Valley_20100313_NGC_6188.html )
The Southern Pinwheel Galaxy (M83) in Hydra (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Snake_Valley/Snake_Valley_20100313_M83.html)
The Lambda Centauri Nebula (IC 2944) in Centaurus (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Snake_Valley/Snake_Valley_20100314_IC2944.html)

Assuming you could purchase one easily today from Gilman, the total cost would be close to $1,500. I am looking at $1,100 firm and will deliver within a 300 km radius of Canberra at no charge (I'm looking at you, Sydney-siders!) and could possibly meet my Melbourne brethren half-way. As usual, if you're interested in the scope and would like a bit of time to pay for it, I am open to a 4-week payment plan (will require a deposit).

I will post images tomorrow after I get home from work.

Another regrettable sale, but, I've got my eyes on something else.

Interested parties should email me directly (no private messages, please) at octane2 AT optusnet DOT com DOT au to discuss purchasing or buying via payment plan.

Leave a message here to say that you've sent an email.

Hey Humayun,

I'm considering one of these later this year, know your sale is locked in but I'd appreciate some data, namely:

1. What's the weight of the OTA?
2. What's the lenght of the OTA?
3. Where's the balance point (how far from the front of the OTA must your tube rings be centered for the OTA to be in balance)?

Many thanks,

Matthew
