Hi guys, very productive night last Thursday.

This is the core of NGC6188. That’s 44 x 300s in Ha so a bit over 3.5h in total. The longest integration time I did with the hyperstar on any DSO and it shows in the details. Top left corner of the shot shows some field rotation that I documented here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showpost.php?p=590310&postcount=1). This will not happen again :P

Very happy with the data on this one. There's a better resolution here [610KB] (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/NGC6188_HS3_ha_sf.jpg) and a full 1:1 here (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/NGC6188_HS3_ha_f.jpg)[2.78MB] if you want to have a look at it full screen.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice clear image Marc. The detail is great. Where are you guys getting the clear sky from?

Of course Trev, you'll figure it out. Just takes time and practice. Shoot me a PM when/if you get stuck.

Thanks David. Yes it's all coming together now. Some remaining field issues to deal with then I'm there. :) It's been a long road. So many different moving bits to align and fiddle with between the SCT and the hyperstar but I always knew the potential was there and it's now starting to slowly show.

Thanks Doug. Glad you liked the shot. Thursday night wasn't bad at all in Sydney West. Bit dewy from 1:00am onwards but the jetstream map wasn't too bad and ground wind was nill so I took advantage of it. :)

The plan was to image Thursday then recover Friday night so I could image again from Crago tonight but I got stuck on the M5 all arvo coming back from the airport. Spewing! :tasdevil:

Holy cow Marc, thats amazing, youd be happy indeed, your best yet by far.

In fact id say youve entered a whole new level here, the detail is extrardinary.

Damb it, you know, ill stick my neck out and say this would be one of the best views ive seen of this area.

Youd be nuts not to enter this in the Marlins, perhaps as a colour pic.

Thanks for the high praise Fred. Happy with that one? Yes definitely but for the top left. Once I have the final field sorted out I'll be right. Everything else is A OK now. Receiving a SCT laser collimation kit (http://www.hotechusa.com/category-s/23.htm)soon from Hotech. So I'll start playing with that and see what's going on with the "thermal" flop overtime.

Thanks a lot Carl. Glad you liked it.

Thanks Greg. Yeah I'm pretty happy with it. Flat fielding working with the hyperstar just opened another door for me. I can really push the contrast in the data set now. Exciting times ahead :)

That is a sublimely beautiful image Marc!! Great detail and smooth as silk! You appear to have resolved your problem with the field tilt then? At f/1.8 focusing must be a real challenge!

Very nice image Marc ... lots of subtle detail revealed !

Thanks David. Believe it or not it was only one hour before I moved to the swan area. By then the scope was in temperature and I didn't change anything at all. By the time I slew to M17 (mostly in dec) so no major balance shift here, everything started to go out of wack. Focusing is not too hard to do. I know it's supposed to be a very tight CFZ at F/1.8 but in practice I never had any hard time focusing. The bathinov does a fine job so does the primary mirror lock.

Thanks Steve.

Beautiful image Marc
With this kind of data you could use a bit more sharpening without introducing noise.

09-05-2010, 05:22 PM
Thanks Martin. You're right I could have but didn't this time. I usually always do. I didn't do any sharpening or even noise reduction. I had none to start with. I thought it looked smooth enough or maybe I was a bit mellow after two beers ;)

I don't know, I seem to always love B&W Ha images, something about them to my eye.

Lots of nice detail amongst this and well processed.
Looks as thought the Hyperstar is a real winner:thumbsup:

All the best

Thanks Rich. Loved your RGB shot of the same area. Very deep too. I can't get that close with that level of details with my current guiding but will give it a try when I get the AO running. :)

Thanks Daniel. Give Ha a go. Easy peasy.

Thanks Mike. Appreciate the comments.

Thanks Marcus - glad you liked it. Actually I was checking your observatory construction on your website yesterday. It's a work of art mate. You're a man of many talents.

Merci Lucien. Oui l'hyperstar capture enormement de lumiere pour des temps d'exposition relativement court ce qui me permet de pousser le contraste dans les prises de vue.

Thanks for the comments Baz. Stay off the lightning and keep safe ;)

You are really pushing the C11 | Hyperstar | QHY8 combination to great lengths to achieve spectacular results. Your transition into 'humdinger' images is well underway

Ooh La La Marcy Marc!!
Love it - "you can't do NB with a OSC CCD"!!!!!
Eat those words whoever said them!!:lol:
Have you got an OIII filter in your toolbag?
I always recall Eddie's (ejcruz) synthetic RGB image of this region as being worthy of a stab/copy!!

Thanks Doug. Yeah mono's probably better suited as far as QE goes but my little OSC still works ok. There's always better but it does the job in NB and I can do RGB too. I saw Eddie's shot. Gorgeous vista. Drooling stuff :eyepop: Will definitely do bicolor Oiii blends when I have sorted out my field issues for sure.

Just back from the SPSP2010. It was great! Caught up with a lot of people and we had gorgeous skies and plenty of socialising and wine and laughs and more wine. :P . Good stuff.

Marc,

That's just sensational. My second favourite part of the sky after Rho Ophiuchus, I reckon.

The framing is wonderful, too, showing the extended nebulosity of the region.

I'm desperate to do this region on the STL. Still waiting for filters...
