Centaurus Wide Field

This is a combo of data taken over 2 nights, making a total of 3hrs and 45min exposure time using 5min subs.
The image is cropped and resized 40%.
camera- Canon20d
lens- Tamron 90mm f2.8
iso 800
f5.6
icnr off
separate darks and flats used


The main objects are, as if you didn't know, Omega Centauri, Centaurus A and NGC 4549.

There a lot more faint fuzzies there as well - eg NGC 5156 stands out plainly to the right and below Omega at mag 13 or so. A lot of stuff to chase in this image - a bit like wheres Wally.

Thursday night I took 1 hr and 40min of 5min subs @iso400 f5.6
Captured the rest last night @iso 800
So it's a bit of a mix up.
But damn it's a hard one to process. No doubt I'll go back to it after I've finished with this other image from last night.

I'll see if I can open up my Flickr account and upload a higher res version.

Very good image jjjnettie. The Tamron 90mm F2.8 Macro is better than even any equivalent FL Canon lens. To show all three in objects in one field means there was good planning before imaging.

The huge dynamic range between all the objects in your large field is the limitation of getting them all at their best in the one field. The folks that image through drainpipes (another Sidonio comment) do not know what they are missing.

I really like it as it shows the relative positions of all three objects. The smaller galaxies are a bonus.

That is a really nice wide field shot Nettie - looks very crisp with good focus across the whole field, and you can even see the dust lane in Centaurus A !

That lens is a keeper for sure and you've managed all aspects to put together a great wide field.
