My best toUcam planet images 2005

:lol: You know, the best thing about having a hard disk full of mediocre/so-so images, it didn't take long at all to track down my best one's!

I could have chucked a few more in I guess, but why? These 2 are my best.

This mars is the only image I got using the 12.5" reflector & toucam.

I tried for the first time tonite, but as luck would have it the clouds rolled in as soon as I was setup. I was stuffing around trying to get focused (moon) and just couldn't - from fully racked in to fully racked out. Really weird. Then I remembered that the original webcam lense needed to be screwed out a couple of turns to focus it, so I did that with the adapter. Surprise, I got it to focus!

Is that normal? Seems a bit strange when you have to loosen off the adapter to get focus... I would have thought it would be better screwed in all the way.

Focusing still seems to be problematic. How do you have a chance of getting it focused on a small planet like Mars, since it would drift out of view before you have a chance to get sorted out? Any hints would be great...

But at least I did get it focused on the Moon briefly hehe... it was rather nice watching the craters on the Moon wizzing along my laptop screen. Pity everything washed out in front of my eyes as the clouds came over. Well, a step at a time. I've made a start & hopefully I'll actually capture something next time. :) :) :)

Rochler, Instead of screwing out the adaptor, just slide the whole Toucam out of the focuser a bit.

G'day fellow cheese lover.....Yeah, I should have warned you crap weather was on the way. I get it first being west of Adelaide..

Are you using a barlow lens or just sticking the toucam in the focuser? Sounds like your JUST making it by getting focus with the toucam fully racked out///Try pulling the toucam & adapter out of the focuser 10mm & locking it there (using the focuser lock screw) & then re-focus...You should be able to screw the adapter up tight.

Focusing with no tracking is not easy! Just ask Dave Pretorious! :lol: I have tracking so it's way easy for me. All I can suggest for you is focus on the moon then slew over to mars & take an AVI & see how it comes out. :confuse3:

although 12.5" x 1600 is a little bigger than 10" x 1250, but hey watch out for the little guy.................

Hi Asi, hope you're feeling better. Reviewing your best of the best must have cheered you up - they're excellent - it still amazes me what these humble little webcams can do compared with the film stills of the last millenium:)

Looking in on this thread (as if I did'nt start it...) I would have expected to see more images rather than just two.. Sorry to be so boring!

I was going to throw in some achro-refractor mars shots because I loved the detail I was getting, but I discounted them because of the lack of natural colour.
