Hi all,
I just thought I would throw out the idea of a get-together for the June partial Lunar Eclipse.
maybe we can get together somewhere to share a cuppa and watch / observe / image the eclipse from a desirable location.

I would offer my place for the occasion, but the trees ( as nice as they are ) at my place obstruct most of the sky.

Maybe a public place would be good. We dont really have to worry about lights etc for observing the Full Moon eclipse.

What do you think ????

Norah head Lighthouse ????????:P

It looks to me like the eclipse will start at 6.55 pm Saturday 26th June in the East Southeast sky.
It will start getting interesting about 8.15 pm as the Moon rises in the sky and the eclipse will end at about 12.20 the next morning some where overhead maybe to the West a little.

AMMENDMENT .... DATE SHOULD BE 26TH JUNE

54 percent of the Moon will be obscured by the shadow of the earth.

Wooohoooo.

The PC would be good if we didnt want to go somewhere where we could show the public thru our scopes....

What about Crackneck lookout at Bateau bay, nice and high with tall trees as a backdrop to reduce ambient light?

Sorry Allan.

date should have been 26th.:P

Crackneck may be OK , but may get quite a few members of the public......

Well!!! Which way do you want to go.???

I am happy to show the public. Thats really quite a buz Ifind.

So...
Probably low magnification and wide FOV is the way to go, right?
Say between 1 to 2 degrees true FOV. Do you think?

Sounds like the big binos to me.

What do you reckon?

The car park at Norah Head would be great! ...But I am pretty sure the council rangers close the gate an hour after sunset.
Maybe we can ask them to leave it on this special occassion.?

I hope to but i'm probably a 50/50, I'm getting an extention put on my place at the moment by a builder friend & part of the deal is that i give him a hand. So i'm trying to get away on sat arvo if there is still room, i dont want to take someone's spot though, sounds like there's a few going.
Anyway have a great time if i dont seeya
Phil

They do shut them an hour after dark, but if you can park on the side of the road before the round about and just before the gates up top it wont be a problem :P
