LX200 set-up

Sorry if this questions has been asked before.
Apart from using the 2 star alignment procedure for an LX200 GPS telescope, is there another way to set the telescope up for correct tracking in the souther hemisphere?

There should be several options to align the scope if you scroll through the alignment menu. Some are more useful then others depending on the application and configuration.

There's Automatic Alignment, which works fine for me and doesn't care what hemisphere you're in - that's what the GPS is for. Also, several manual alternatives: Easy (Two-Star) Alignment, Two-Star Alt/Az Alignment and One-Star Alt/Az Alignment.

Michael,
just wondering what problem you're having aligning your LX200 GPS. If you're having trouble with the alignment stars that it automatically selects,you can scroll through all of the available alignment stars with the hand controller until you find one that's visible from your particular location.

Hi Michael,

I'm no expert as I've recently bought a LX200GPS myself and haven't had too many chances to practice alignment, but you may need to look into recalibrating sensors etc. There are procedures for this to follow which you can look up.

Are you using a wedge or Alt-Az? If you are, you may need to get your alignment more accurate by doing drift aligning. Look in the resources section on IIS or google for more info.

There's a number of things to get right but once you have and are practised it should be easy!

:) forget 2 star
use 1 star, slew to first, manually release clutchs "RA" & "DEC", and centre as best you can,re-tighten clutches, goto another known star, use autostar to centre, SYNC, and your all done! :D

Using a reticule eyepiece to get the star dead centre will also make a big difference in accuracy of alignment. Its very hard to judge the centre of the eyepiece with without some help.
