Don't you just love these 1950's adverts. This one is from Sky & Tel, 1959.

A classic.

They don't make them like they used to. Would certainly be a solid bit of kit.

Probably needed 8 million years worth of wages to pay for that in those days.

Feck Me!
What's the 'Lady of the House" doin' with a bit of kit like that? Why is she out of the kitchen?
Unless there's a washing machine in that pedestal, she'd best get back to work and leave the business of science to her husband!

Ah, that ad and this thread are so wrong on so many levels :D

(and you are right Jacquie, the performance of these old scopes is superb!)

I really really want to edit this thread. Unfortunately its legitimate.

However treading carefully is advised with some of the TOS avoidance ;)

Sorry for the hijack.

 It'd be more a Father Jack line I reckon.
My favourite episodes "Cigarettes, Alcohol and Roller Blading." and "New Jack City"

'Tis OK.

The two 'Kicking Bishop Brennan up the A%$s' episodes (A%$@' episodes) get my vote.

Favorite quote - Dougal: 'Ah, Buckeroo, sport of kings!'

Could we get back on topic please. This thread is in equipment discussions not general chat.
Thanks

Looks a bit like the space shuttle!

Do you think they used a woman in the photo to accentuate its size?

According to my ruler, She is under 5' tall (not more than 1.44m) tall. 1950's version of "photoshopping" I think!

However it would be nice to see that scope these days. I wonder how many survive?

Update - Google tells me here is one still being loved:-

Check out the size of the rings sitting on top of it. Wonder what sits there?

I've done a bit more searching.

Here we go:-

Says the rings are "for balance!" :)
