Where do you dream of travelling to?

Just wondering what your favourite holiday destination is (and why) around the globe (Australia included). Also, one that you dream of going to one day and why.

Mine would would have to be Port Douglas or anything to do with the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays. I would love to visit the Mediterranean one day.

I'm going to Iceland and Norway in August/September because I thought it would be nice to go somewhere completely different to Australia. I just hope the volcanic activity quietens down a little in the meantime...

I try and go to europe every 2-3 yrs, depending on how hard I save (Europe is pretty cheap once you get over the airfare) ..... but 3 places I aim to go one day are - The Galapagos islands, Antartica and Africa (to see the animals in the wild).

Otherwise, Scotland. I really love the west coast and the Isle of Skye, Glencoe, the road west from Inverness past Liathach...... I dream of going back there one day.....

There is one place I would love to go to but have never actually got around to planning a trip there is Egypt to see the pyramids! I guess my favourite place, based on the number of times I have been there, would have to be Hawaii...been there five times, or maybe six? Been to Mauna Kea summit twice. Other favourites and times visited are: London (3 or 4?), Paris (4), San Francisco (2), Disneyland (3), New Zealand (2), Lake Louise (3)...ahhhh, the list goes on.

During September this year we are taking a cruise from Freemantle to Sydney via Bali, Darwin, Townsville, Port Douglas, Brisbane and several other ports, Brisbane and Sydney are the only places I have been before. I am really looking forward to seeing a couple of clear sunsets and hope to catch a "green flash" or two!

In Central America I took a trip to the top of a volcano in Nicaragua (I think) and the soles of my shoes actually partially melted. I can still remember the smell of the sulphur, and the smoke...and putting a stick into lava and watching it burst into flames. Last time we went to Hawaii we drove around to Mauna Loa and watched the lava....incredibly hot! The next day I went to the top of Mauna Kea and watched the sunset.

Having already seen the Grand Canyon, The Meteor Crater ( Arizona ), Tombstone, Petrified Forest, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills, Movie sites of Jerry Maguire and Police Academy (Los Angeles).

I want to see Yellowstone National Park, Salmon runs in Alaska, Release of the "Ball" New Year's Eve in Time Square, New York.

Then to the Mid West to see the nitro funny car drags. I have a friend, Jack Wyatt, Nitro Funny car driver, has invited me over. (4.6 secs standing start 1/4 mile.)

and maybe Vanuatu and NZ again.

I hit 60 next year, so the wife and I are off to Egypt and Turkey. Lots of places I would like to see including Czech Republic and all of eastern Europe and Greece. A return trip to Italy would be nice ... too much to see ... too few $$$'s.

I think that I would like to visit all the major observatories in the world, all the best dark sky sites and then home.

I would love to go back to the UK, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. A maybe Paris for a third time.

Everywhere is good to go to once, but having experienced an arbovirus I will stay away from tropical zones. There are a bunch of nasty diseases you can pick up from mosquitos.

Canada is beautiful, clean and well set up for tourists - we camped there and they have ring roads through the forest with spur tracks leading to individual camping sites - the California coastal redwoods are majestic and have a similar set-up. If you like cities Sanfrancisco is one of the more interesting ones.

I'd like to circumnavigate the Mediterranean to gain a sense of the ancient cultures. I'd like to see Iraq, particularly the area around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, but will it ever be safe enough?

Im excited about heading to Cairns, well just north of PT Douglass (for our beach camp site) for the Eclipse in 2012, But in 2011 we are heading inland, We have a long list but Woomera, and Henbury Meteorite craters are on the list with a few famous tracks, stations, hot springs and roadhouses.

2010 Was 2 weeks and a bit in Tassie and Tassie was fantastic. Tassie is set up for travelers. A small town like 200 people would have at least 2 caravan parks if its in a nice area. So we will do Tassie again. Thanks for the thread.

I've been to Yasur volcano on the island of Tanna, Vanuatu.
Staying in bamboo huts near by. It was real Gilligans Island stuff. LOL
No phone, no light, no motor car. We were right on the beach, black volcanic sand. All day all night you can hear the breakers on the beach alternating with the BOOM CHOOF of the volcano. The drive up, there were vents along the roadside, stained yellow with sulphur. After the final climb on foot, we were on the very edge of the caldera, looking down into the heart. Awesome.
I'd do it again in the blink of an eye.

LOLOL my son Jack was only 9mths old, blond hair and blue eyes. He was the darling of the local villagers. He'd be gone for hours, being taken from village to village. I got to talk with some of the local women, communicating with a mixture of broken English, massacred French and lots of waving of hands.
They rely on Custom Magic for healing and childbirth. Not sure if they were a full on Cargo Cult, , but they believe in John From and still await his return.

My favorite places revolve around nice places to fly my paraglider + other activities and in particular:

- New Zealand South Island - Queenstown, for the flying in the vicinity of Coronet Peak and Wanaka, plus all the other fun things to do there;

- Bright, in NE Victoria which is arguably the best place in Australia to fly as well as having many other outdoor activities on offer, beautiful scenery and very nice accommodation. And it's also good for stargazing at night.

Trips I dream of...

A vacation flying the paraglider in Europe - starting with flying in the Swiss Alps, then the French Alps and ending in the Italian Alps. And take in everything else on offer along the way :) and maybe a side trip to Paris and the Isle de France if I have time. Might need a couple of months to do it, though.

Visiting Japan and China, just doing the touristy things and ideally with a companion fluent in the languages. Hoping to do it this year.

I'm having two bites of the cherry. I refer to my earlier post: The USA Mid West. Where my friend Jack lives. (Jack Wyatt) Drag Racer Nitro Funny Car. I decided to post a pic of him in action.:D

An interesting item for the chemists out there; the flames are not unburnt fuel. They are actually decomposed water and it is the recombining of the hydrogen to H2O again that is flaring. Not all that visible during bright daylight.:)

The Yanks have many more nitro cars than Aus. Its a must see for me one day along with the others I mentioned.;)

I'd like to visit Petra in Jordan, the magnificent city carved from stone that features at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. No motorised vehicles allowed so travel only by foot, horse or camel through the city. Machu Picchu is also of interest but I have suffered altitude sickness in the Colorado Rockies previously and am a bit wary of adventures at altitude.
