Ahh yes, Mr Promper is da man.
As we know Mike from his images over the past from the SX group, he has produced some pretty remarkable images, especially since owning the ASA and 8300 FLI, & now he has the larger ccd.... just like you!
Plus as you say, Namibia seems to be a bit of a mecca for our EU peers. Guess nice and dry with no pollution... just have to dodge a few spears, lions, crazed baboons.......
I tend to drop in a lot to see what the Wolfy has been up to, seems to always be pushing the bar further up the scale!

Ok, so come on Mike, stop showing us other folks work, wanna see more of yours with your lovely new ccd!

Cheers for now
Rich

Mike Observatoryless :(

You know as a curiousity that Namibia is the same latitude as my dark site near Cowra. And the Tivoli farm is about the same distance from the coast as mine as well.

Same too for the Pingelly site in WA which is inland from Perth.

However, instead of Lions I get Kangaroos.

Namibia though looks to have a bit better seeing.

Actually I'll be a voice of dissension here.

I don't think it's that good at all.

Yes, there is resolution in the image that you don't typically get with a smaller scope, but apart from that there's nothing to write home about. The colours are oversaturated, there is violet in the nebulae and green in the stars, these are beginners errors in image processing (i.e. Wow I've got some great data, let's process the absolute crap out of it). The image is noisy, and for a 16" from very dark steady skies I'd expect more.

Don't get me wrong, it is a good image, but you can see the potential that has not been fulfilled.

Cheers
Stuart

I beg to differ Stuart. re:colors you might be right, bit saturated in the blues and greens but it's personal taste. As far as details and sharpness of the shot goes it is truly outstanding for a 16". Coincidently I had an opportunity to play with and process some raw data on the same object taken by Joe Cauchi at wiruna last new moon week-end on a 16" newtonian F/4.5, so same ball park instrument. It was the night I posted my RGB widefield on NGC3576. The transparency and seeing were the best we've seen so exceptional conditons. And when I compare his data with this data it made me realise what incredibly good skies can do for a picture and how good the process was too.
