I had my first night with the G11 with my C11 on top....no guiding as I am awaiting more counter weights.

Both images were on the C11 with 6.3 focal reducer.

Shot these at my home Tingalpa Brisbane.

The Orion was 30 x 90 second exposures at ISO 800 at a focal length of approx 1900mm.

The horsehead was 10 x 90 second exposure ISO 800

I used my new Baeder UHC-S filter for Both these images...the Orion I had to reduce the red channel as it looked to take over to much.

Seeing was terrible as I started to take these shots at 8:30pm..I was doing this as more of a test shot but ended up being very happy with the raw images so I decided to process them.

I used DSLR Focus and Images plus with final touches in Photoshop CS

NO flats or dark frames used....but I did shoot in raw.

Comments welcomed

Very Nice Tony, both you andPaul are producing some lovely images especially now that you both have the G11. Paul might be waiting for a 20Da for his next "gift" to match your setup!.

despite the lack of post processing they are great images! I TIPS ME HAT TO YOU!!

Gotta love that G11 Tony. Great shots for unguided at that focal length. Your polar alignment mustn't be too far out.

this is the first i have seen with orion that has all that extra clouds bottom left. it aint noise. loveley and sharp. I can see you having so much fun when the seeing gets better and all the processing starts

horsehead is nice too!

Tony great shots there, considering no guiding, dark frames or flats.
Awesome mount and polar alignment is tops.
I had a quick go at processing your orion image.
There's good detail in there, although I was in a hurry and may have over-processed.

Cheers.

:prey2:Awsome Tony, just awsome.

The detail is what i strive in desperation to get in my images, well done.

Did i say that the Orion is awsome:confuse3:

Not only have you captured most of the faint detail, you have also got an image of an "alien" in there as well.

It's got eyes a nose ears and all, spooky, very spooky, the kind of image that would get the hairs on the back of the neck on end, and make you look with goose bumps over your shoulder at a dark site.

Can anyone else spot it? or have i gone pixel mad:scared:

Andrew...yeah I think that looks a bit over done to me anyway.

Enjoy Your new 20DA camera...you will love it...if you have any questions just ask.

I sent the Orion image to Eddie Trimarchi to have a go at processing...the image I sent Eddie was a combined tiff of 20 x 90 second exposures of the Orion on my C11....then reduced down from 8 megapixel to less then 1 megapixel.

I have compressed the file to jpeg....what a great job Eddie did..well done Eddie.

I wish I could take the credit...but I could not live with my self....lol

No just admit it like I do, I don't know everything. Can I send some images to Eddie Trimarchi too? Surely a raw image would be better? Higher dynamic range and no compression induced noise or artefact. JPG is full of artefact and self induced noise.

Forgot to say very nice detail etc would be better using raw. It is all hidden.

Sorry Striker if I have misunderstood. I just thought if the image was so good from one meg there was more there. I can't compete with your single optic that has no CA. My aim is to make very large mosaics in colour of the sky at moderate resolution with my 300mm lens so all these fantastic shots all you guys do at high mag. and high resolution can be seen on a poster size picture with some relevance to each other.
A bit like Starways.

We all have a hard wired part of the brain that looks for faces, sometimes it works too well.

Thats cool Bert...It probably sounded like I sent Eddie a Jpeg how I worded it.

Sure keeping the image at 8MP would have been better but sending a 47mb file is way to large to email.

Eddie couldn't open the (CR2) Canon Raw file so the best we could do was to send a reduced Rez Tiff file at about 3mb.

Aw Tony, why'd you go and post these, here I was happy to concentrate on planetary as I'd convinced myself no good deep sky could be done from suburban Brisbane, then wham! You realise of course this is going to cost me $, maybe not now, but soon

hope you're feeling guilty!

Striker
29-12-2005, 09:57 AM
Sorry Robert.....there is no doubt you can do a lot better with dark skies but you can still get some good results in Suburbia.

Check out Eddie web site.....most of his images were done from his Observatory on the Gold Coast.

Hey Tony, nice shots

what's up with the tracking? you got oblong stars in two directions in the original
you posted?

The Horsehead Neb I'm talking about

Re-editActually it's in both images you posted

Rob there unguided Images...plus no Pec....throw in some vignetting with no flats or darks....I would say thats enough.

xrekcor
29-12-2005, 03:34 PM
Not really sure if vignetting with no flats or darks would create the oblong
star effect. Still even unguided the oblong effect should be uniform. Where
as in your images they're up and down on the right side, and left to right
on the left side, interesting. Similar to what I have seen with a yoke style
mount working in Alt-Azi mode.

Maybe there was some kind of camera movement.

I can't see anything wrong with the stars.
Where abouts are they?
