Well over the last few months I have become a huge fan of "MUSE" Three brilliant albums" Blackholes and revelations" "The resistance" and "Absolution"
Been a long time since I have heard a REAL band this good!
Cheers Daniel.
I too am still stuck in the 70's Nettie. :screwy: Hate to admit it, but you just can't beat that era! ;) I am currently setting my playlist to play "UnderCover Angel, Save your Kisses for me, Billy don't be a Hero and Convoy". To name just a few...oh and don't even get me started on anything from the band "America". Okay, that's going on my playlist now too.:P
 Hmm.. I think I'll also add Lady Bump, Sky High and Born to be Alive.
And round if off with some Cold Chisel :rockband: Done. :D

I've just put on Neil Young's 1978 album "Come's a Time".
I bought it the other day, an upgrade to my vinyl, it brings back so many memories.
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Ron, he's saying "don't you slip in love with those girls on the avenue". Stay away from them Ron, apparently their easy to fall in love with because they hang out of their window sills (hundreds of them), in this one avenue. They must all be lonely all at the same time. How unfortunate for them, poor things.:( (I really meant  )
Now I have that song stuck in my head- so I guess that's what I'm listening to at the moment.

Ron, was it a live version? I just looked up the lyrics and there's no "flay" in it. Perhaps I need to download and listen to it, as singing that song in my head isn't cutting it! Goodness, now that song is stuck in my head again.
That is a fabulous playlist, there's a few I don't know (but you got such a great list, I think I may like them, so I will see if I can get them and copy your playlist. Yes, Lou Gramm is amazing (great news that he recovered well after a brain a tumour). As is Justin Hayworth. Hi David,
Well I can't play the guitar so I will have to take your word on it, as to its difficulty :)
At a guess, whilst Ritchie Blackmore might not be the greatest guitarist ever, there's plenty who slot in behind him in the "ability stakes", so I guess he plays a lot of riffs that are difficult. That having been said "Smoke on the Water" is the one song I can play on the guitar, so it has to be easy as.
I really like this song because it's more of a rock ballad which gives you the opportunity to appreciate what a great voice Ian Gillan has.
Cheers,
John B

Unfortunately the only time I saw Focus they were terrible. The group was about to break up and it sounded that way. The support group (Sebastian Hardy) were better, and in Melbourne Focus were booed and the crowd called fro SH to come back on stage. A random gem that I pulled out and popped in was Yanni's Live at the Acropolis from 1993. Wow, that took me back. I have a penchant for listening to music which makes the soul soar.
Have a listen to Yanni - Renegade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbFV07LteXw) -- for the impatient, forward to 5:07 into it which is just prior to Karen Briggs and Pedro Eustache just letting rip. It's pure awesome. This one isn't from the Acropolis, it's from the Taj Mahal.

Oh, man. It took me a good 2 years to get into Dream Theater. I found it a little easier to get into Symphony-X. If you haven't tried Symphony-X, you must. American progressive metal rules. I've been giving Shadow Gallery - Room V a lot of airplay in recent times, as well as Between the Buried and Me - Colours. Colours is incredible.

The couple of weeks I've been going back through my Angels collection, last night I went to one of two perfomances in the Angels Face to Face Tassie tour.
The original Angels lineup, all were as tight and polished, better than I remembered, they are still the best live band I have ever heard.
Doc Neeson put in a fantastic performance despite his disabilities, the whole performance was outstanding.
Apparently they're touring Qld in August, if you're an Angels fan, whatever you do, don't miss it.
Oh my gosh, the Angels touring Qld?! How awesome that's going to be.. I can't wait! Thanks for that!:D

Hi All,
Right now: Houses of the Holy -- Led Zeppelin. Simply brilliant. I've hardly been able to listen to anything else in the last couple of weeks (must have listened to it half-a-dozen times). Even when I'm not actually playing it, I can't get "The Rain Song" out of my head.

I've always been partial to great music that has an underlying theme or message. I tend to listen very closely to the message, as most good songs, irrespective of genre and epoch, have an oratory undercurrent.
Nickelback have encompassed what is wrong with society and given a message of hope, stating that if we all just took a brief moment of time out of our lives, everyone can, could, should, would make a difference... if we just set aside our differences. I don't think there is anyone with a conscience who would not be touched by this video. The fact that Mandela actually suffered for almost three decades before leading his country out of the pit of despair speaks volumes to the human psyche. The others in the video contributing to my belief that there is hope, in spite of my own personal opinion that the world "might" be better off without us.
Considering the current state of play for a rather insignificant species call "Homo Sapien", I believe that we should start looking inward rather than to "divine intervention" to guide us. Considering the vast difference of opinions on "who said what" several hundred to more than two thousand years ago, religion may not necessarily the best teacher on how to conduct ourselves when "common sense" (which I believe is "uncommon") is a better way of progressing humanity. Please do not get me wrong, "Traditional" religions serve a great purposes in steering the overall "moral compass" of society, but we must recognize that the problem is greater than religion itself... History, as they say, is ultimately written by the those who were victorious, thus I will always call into question the propagada without direct evidence as to its validity.
In that vein, and from the perspective of the modern society and those who are also trying to convey a message, I love the scripted paragraph from "The Matrix", which will always remain one of my favorites...
Agent Smith articulated...
"I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren’t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we... are the cure."
This post has now turned into a poignant, personal philosophical message which I was originally considering to aggressive, however, when I account for the intellect of the audience reading this, I expect that an equally even response will follow... please accept my apologies if I have offended anyone here.
FYI: I just finished the Beyonce / Shakira video "Beautiful Liar" ... completely apropos with respect to this post, as once again, the dark side of (in this case) men is conveyed via a message of deceit.
OIC!
BTW: "Beautiful Liar" is one of the sexiest video's I've seen (if you are "Latino", you'll know that I mean)... :)

Yanni... my much better half is in life loves him and I have to say, when it come to articulating feelings without uttering a single word, his music is so penetrating that you have no choice but to front up to the fact that even men must confront and deal with their "female, soft" side...
"I'm a human being" ... what a classy guy. Linda Evans must have been so changed by a guys like this...
Considering I have a very dark side, I could never hope to be able to live up to his philosophy...
I so wish I were more positive on humanity... at least my better half has enough for the both of us...

"Was raining in my heart
Falling deep inside of me
Drowning in my soul
This silence rushes over me
I am breath against this fire
And I will not turn away
I'm waiting for time to carry me
Like a tempest to the sea
Standing strong
Watching over
Love will keep me believing
Thru the dark...can you hear me calling
Holding on when I'm dreaming
Love is all...Love is all
Thundering on high
Love was all I knew before I fell
And now the shots of man
Are echoing inside myself
I am breath against this fire
And I will not turn away
I'm waiting for time to carry me
Like a tempset to the sea
Standing strong
Watching over"

LOS HIJOS DE LA OSCURIDAD
<lyrics>

Currently a lot of Dream Theater but the ones I like the best lately are Transatlantic and Joe Satriani's anthology.
Some of Nightwish (I don't really like the headbanging songs more the melodic ones they do) and Spocks Beard are my other favorites.
Transatlantic have 3 albums and the first 2 are great and just starting to listen to the latest 3rd one which seems good in spots.
Flower Kings also are good in spots.
I find most bands are very inconsistent and only occasionally good. But then again:rofl: so are my images hehehehe.

Just read JP's response:
Obviously you've all heard the news of Mike's departure from Dream Theater by now.
I felt it important to open up a line of communication in an effort to kill any rumors and to promote clarity.
I love Mike and really hope he's happy and successful in whatever he does.
I realize that Mike was always the one to actively stay in touch with our fans, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to try to be at least a bit more present on both mine and DT's websites and to let you all know that I am here.
To me, Dream Theater's story is one of defying the odds, standing for true integrity in music and creating our own success through perseverance and hard work, so although Mike's leaving is heartbreaking, I still look forward to an amazing musical journey that continues on with some of the most talented and respected musicians and composers on the planet!

I've been listening to a young woman named Sierra Hull. This video shows her as a precious talent. To be honest the mando player I play with could do this comfortably but then he has been playing for 25+ years.

This is her at about ??16?? and she is getting very good. I also like the tune.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7nhbsMi3B8&feature=related
Just to show how talented she is here she is on the guitar. (Remember the fingering on a mando is different to a guitar - guitar is in fourths and the mando in fifths.) She even survives the loss of the bass - and of course I'd suggest that the loss of the bass is traumatic :D:D..

phw0ar! A woman after my own heart!
It's quite rare that anyone knows who Uaral is, let alone Ulver! I also like Empyrium.
Ulver is the pick of the bunch for me. There's a cold, harsh, stark, beautiful tranquility around their sound and a particular quality to their music which I can't quite put my finger on. Like Norsemen sitting around a campfire chanting hymns and singing songs of mysticism and mythology. Uaral has a much more romantic and classical feel which I also adore. At times, the music can be quite depressive.
All in all, both great bands who have produced some extremely beautiful music which evokes feelings across a broad spectrum of emotion.

Especially the anvil as an instrument from 1:58 to 4:30. Complete raw epic awesomeness. How inspirational!

Watched "Requiem For A Dream" this evening... completely forgot how good this film is/was (if you don't have a strong psyche, don't watch it, it's about the dark side of drug addiction)... one of the best soundtracks ever.
If you've never seen the film, I'm certain you would at least recognize one song, "Lux Aeterna" by Clint Mansell. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/89/Clint_Mansell_Lux_Aeterna.ogg
Absolutely awesome track.

Definitely that kinda movie... love Jennifer Connelly's bathtub scene. Simple, elegant, seductive, then BAM! ... the scream
Closing scene's are gut wrenching... chasing the dream.

You are the second person to tell me this... I guess I better. I understand that Mansell did the tracks for it as well.
Great piece, as for the transition@ 54s... holy crap-o-la... loud as, but sets the piece. I prefer the chorus at 2m. Outro (coda) is great.
BTW: Damn requiem song is stuck in my head for the night... gonna be difficult to get to sleep... maybe I need some pills ?!?!? :eyepop:

Moon is absolutely brilliant.
Sam Rockwell's performance is incredible. If it's cloudy again tonight, I think I might get it out ;)

Clint Mansell creates absolutely breathtaking music. If you really want a treat from him check out "The Fountain" soundtrack. I listen to it constantly and every time it blows me away.

I only have her "best of " collection. Which is your favourite album?
Oh boy... ever since the video for 'Human Behaviour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPyTgmC3nQQ)' I have had a seriously massive crush for Björk.
I have a few Björk albums(Debut, Post, Homogenic) but I must get around to hearing the newer three.
I guess I listen to Post more than the others as it has so many great tracks: Army of me, Hyperballad(awesome with a subwoofer), It's oh so Quiet, Isobel(awesome), Possibly Maybe, I Miss You.
Homogenic gets a workout too, particularly 'Hunter'(the change at 1:40.. awesome) 'Joga' and ofcourse 'Bachelorette (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_RSlsnbCEM)' which is an amazing track.
Overall though the album just kinda lacks sparkle.
I realy like the way she blends electronic beats with traditional instruments and a strong orchestral sound.
I saw a documentary about her years ago, where she said she always carries a little pocket synthesiser with her and whenever she gets an idea, doesn't matter where, she quickly records it on the synth.

Ahh, Björk…
I've got all her albums of course :)
Her latest pieces are quite interesting, "Fletta" (in collaboration with Antony Hegarty on his album "Swanlights"), and "The Comet Song" from the animated movie "Moomins and the Comet Chase". Both excellent pieces of minimalistic art.
Cheers
Steffen.

Can you imagine the music Frank and Bjork would have made together.
Mind boggling.
