How many of you folks out there use Skype to keep in touch with other members and friends from IIS.
A few of us have been using it for a while now and have found some pretty useful features. We are able to chat on it using text, chat using talk and video also but the big thing which has shown it's head is the ability to share screens which allows one to share a screen with another person to show things like images and step by step processing as a demonstration.
It is a great program, free to use between other Skype members world wide.

Gotta agree with you Doug, it makes international communication affordable. I use it on the iPhone as well, just find a wifi site and talk, great stuff.

Yeah.
My family has been using it for about a year now. We only really use it to speak to overseas family members. on the 24th of April we added another person to the family and with in 24 hours my sister-in-laws in england had met him.
Great idea though, using it for demos. Would be great to do that.
:) mmm i reakon i could get into this skype thingy :D
Where's the link Doug ;)

Yep, a truly brilliant freebie - I rely on it for communication with my son and his family in Vancouver.
It's also excellent for very large file transfers (home videos in our case), using the 'Share' dropdown under the Conversations tab and 'Send files...' Works like FTP, but without any configuration hassles and avoids email mailbox size limitations.
If you want to, you can go further by paying a subscription and direct dial any national/international numbers at pretty good rates, even have your own direct dial Skype number if you like.

Hi Doug
Its great! David's relatives are mostly overseas, so we use Skype to contact the UK.
Cheers Petra d.
Yes, Skype is wonderful .
I chat with my sisters a couple of times a week on Skype - all free PC to PC!!
Great for overseas - I took over a little baby lappy last time and was excellent for our group of 6 females to chat with family at home.
Cant believe you havnt got it Jen ;)
Dont use it for IIS though .... yet.

I've never tried this feature:
Skype Conference Calls (http://www.skype.com/intl/en/allfeatures/conferencecall/)

Ahaha.
Everytime someone brings up this I mention this story.
Skype + iTouch+WiFi = best inventions ever.
We were in Florida (Titusville), during our NASA visit and we were doing our laundry at a local laundromat.
Whilst doing our laundry and trying to be not so bored, I decided to bring my iTouch with headphones, but just thought maybe we might get a wifi signal.
Vola, we had a connection (hehe c/o next door). Jumped on to skype and away we went.
There's 2 of us, sitting and doing laundry, each of us with an earbud (earbuds with mic) each talking through skype to a Neice in Upstate NY and a Neice in Louisiana.
It was just so weird and unbelievable, because it felt just so futuristic.
The sound quality drops in "conference" mode, but it is still way cool.
Best ever device for the traveller!
EDIT:
The conference mode, is a little tricky to enable. By memory you have to right mouse click over the user that's online to get the menu for conference mode.
I'm re-installing Skype due to new a PC, so they might have changed that method of enabling.

Just for info Video conference is only available at present between 2 parties. Hopefully they will come out with an upgraded version that covers more than two. You can audio conference with multiple parties though.
:eyepop: What no purple text and no emoticons nah forget it i stick with MSN :lol:

It has got emoticons don't let them turn you off skype though you don't get purple or any other colour for that matter. But I have to say that Messenger is getting worse I have a msn account I can still sign in to the web page but it won't let me sign to messenger anymore so I say go SKYPE:thumbsup:
 I have been using MSN for years and i have never had a problem with it at all :D Webcam pc to pc calls to the UK and the states clear as a whistle and i have lots of emoticons and my text is purple :lol: mmm have to think about this one :screwy:

I have 2 Skype accounts so I can talk to myself. I would love to talk to you Jen, but it depends on which computer I'm using if we can do video or not. e.g. I have a web cam on my netbook but not on this laptop. I have Skype on both computers.
 cool Chillie i will keep you in mind to use as my guinnea pig when i start up :lol:
