I was hoping they would give the darleks, cybermen and the master a rest this season, good to see the weeping angels are back next week.
Yikes, the weeping angels were VERY scary!!

Hmmm.. party coloured Daleks and Spitfires in space. I'm a complete Dr Who fan, and have been for my whole life, but this episode was really ...well....

Have to agree whole heartedly Chris, shame, hope that isn't the future direction of the Dr.
I think the comedian guy that wrote that story should stick to comedies.
Was it just me or was the sound track overly dynamic?
I struggled to hear what half of them were saying while the so called "background" music blasted my ears off.
Out of ten, scored one & a half Kaled mutants from me.

YES-Omaroo,I agree with you,the party coloured daleks-they look like
'teletubbies';it really was ashame they have changed so much on DR WHO,they have also changed the music for the worst.
And that Amy is starting to turn into a 'Donna':(
I think I will give it a miss from now on,and try and build a 2005 model dalek.

Coloured Darlek's although beefier are not scarier
I've been disappointed in the writing and the performance's in a number of episodes in these new Dr series they seem to lack the starkness and dramatic approach of the earlier ones.
To many bells and whistles

They have great potential to be nasty adversaries of the DR, they need to do a bit of work on the time lapse pics as they are moving. More like the matrix I think.

If the angels are made of stone can't you just smash em?
Just watched Ep5 .. I have no idea what happened.
probably won't give those things a break.
tertiary source: according to a friend that works with a writer for Doctor Who (books) there is an order to the episodes:
introduce the doctor
flesh out the companion
filler episode
daleks
filler
.
.
.
i expect cybermen to appear in about four episodes, i guess.
the Angels in teh episode "Blink" were frightening and blink was the best episode of the doctor ever written (big call!). the new angels/doctor lack soemthing...
still, we can all grumble but most of us willl be watching Doctor Who anyway.

Same reaction here - that was a naff episode. We have had coloured daleks before though - I think the supreme dalek used to be red for instance - as for the spitfires in space very silly but then I guess it was no worse than independance day.

That was a good ending to the ep.
Looks like Amy is going to be more special than Rose.
Next weeks ep looks good from previews vampires....well...pointy teeth
An excellent episode with some great twists in it.
Next week looks a ripper as well.

Just watched the weeping angles part 1 last night - those critters give me the hebegebees - hard to get that fanged stony face out of my mind - not a bad episode. I watched Dr Who as a kid but my kids wouldn't sleep if they saw these newer episodes.
Yes, was a good episode, and cant wait for next weeks!!
didn't we get enough sexual tension with rose? :screwy:
that's why i liked donna- no weird alien love interest there, just friends.
hmmmm... this doctor still talks too much... :mad2:
but i am impressed by the actors that can rattle off the doctor's monologues :)
How did we enjoy 'Vampires of Venice' - I did, was good, but sad though with the dying out of a species, but Venice survives!!
Not bad. Trying to get used to the new Doc.
I think we've been very spoiled with the last one. Dash it, why did he have to be so good.
Yes, I know what you mean Molly. Am trying to accept the new doc, and think he will be fine ... but I LOVE David.:love:
Yeah - he had that silly grin like he was always having fun, but could still turn it on when the universe needed saving......!
Then again, I wasn't too sure about Tom BAker for a while either.... :D

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series with Matt and Karen. Vincent and the Doctor was my favorite episode to date. Looking forward to the remaining episodes.
That was an excellent episode with Vincent last night.
Loved the looks on the Dr and Amy's faces when he was throwing his paintings around.

Particularly good moment.
Did I hear wrong, or did the Doctor mention Rory's name before quickly correcting himself?
I'm assuming that with the previous episode, Amy's memory of Rory has been erased?

A pity they had the wrong Starry Night (1889) on display at the Musee d' Orsay, Paris as it at permanent exhibition in Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Starry Night (1888) also known as Starry Night on the Rhone is at Musee d' Orsay. Note the 1888 version was on display in Canberra recently (just beautiful!!) and was officially called Starry Night which confused me a little since I only knew of the 1889 version.
Also Irises is in J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles which was mentioned in the DW Confidential. Other Van Goch fans may have noticed other paintings which should not be at Musee d' Orsay.
Nonetheless an excellent episode of the good Doctor last night; one of the best!

alright, rory was erased from existence he never was born and nobody knows his existance except the doctor...
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!! the spoiler is in white, so you need to highlight...
In the first part of the season final, rory comes back as a fake robotic human, however, he wants to stay that way to stay with Amy (I nearly cried)... and Amy remembers!! but rory was taken over by the program and shot amy... It doesnt say yet if she survives...

Thats what I figured, erased from time, i didnt read your spoiler, but I figure the last ep going to be a good one.The ep were rory came in seemed to miss a bit from the Dr popping out of the cake to him being in the tardis.
V.VG ep was great, he never shows famous ppl the future, eg charles dickins. But I suppose how would believe a mad man if he was to tell , nice twist.
Was REALLY looking forward to this episode, and wasnt too bad.
Yes, but quite a few of mistakes, which made me like it a bit less than I should have. Have followed in Vincents footsteps in France seeing where he lived, painted and died. Still, seeing any works of Vincents was amazing, and I did tear up at the end when he went to Musee d'Orsay.

Pretty good episode, I think. I could only watch the previous seasons (2005-2008) only occasionally and never quite got fully involved in them (the David Tennant era), Matt and Karen has been my first serious attempt to indulge myself in Doctor Who since I was an addict back in ... 1981 with Peter Davison!!!
I do fully appreciate the comments regarding the Van Goch episodes and some of the innaccuracies, but with a bit of artistic licence (it is Doctor Who, after all) the writers did a pretty good job. Now waiting for the DVD to arrive into my ABC shop!
I might try to pick up the complete seasons of David Tennant on DVD also, but I hope I'm not disappointed after being absorbed so much in Mat and Karen's performances. It might be hard to regress.

I think this was the best of the new season. I also like the way they didn't put any trailers on, giving no hint where this one is going.
Absolutely, the were many great episodes there!!
The partners were good too, bar one dragon .... oh, sorry Paddy. ;)
Yes, it was a goodie for sure. :)

11-07-2010, 08:45 PM
Do you reckon?
The stories in season five have a continuous theme of having story lines that are fundamentally flawed, and collectively this season appears to be the 'sloppiest' of 'New Who'. Admittedly I do dislike Matt Smith, although one could expect stronger episodes appearing with Moffat at the reigns. Perhaps though, I'm just a harsh critic! :P

I look forward to sitting down this week to see the final episode. I haven't had any issue with this series, but as I admitted earlier I never hade the chance to seem much of the previous four seasons. How is it sloppy, Kate? Can you elaborate a bit on your view? Honestly like to hear views from others.
Omaroo
11-07-2010, 09:04 PM
Yes, I believe that you quite possibly are. Elaborate on "flaw" please. From an entertainment standpoint the final show was a cracker. I'm not a fan of Smith either, or Gillan for that matter, but I'm not going to bother unwinding and analyzing plots to gauge whether it's worth watching. This episode was fast-paced and interesting. The fact that time lines don't necessarily make sense doesn't matter.

We are talking about a sci-fi show with a Timelord who travels in time, so, I try not to analyse the show that much. Just great entertainment to relax on a Sunday evening

Hello, hopefully someone will share a similar view as to mine...
Through out series/season 5/31 there have been several problems appearing in the story lines and with continuity; perhaps these are things that will be addressed in future, or perhaps they will remain as just errors. However, from the responses evoked so far, I think I'll leave it rest. But I must protest that an episode not making sense (as in Big Bang), must degrade the viewing quality of the episode. Surely a story must make sense, if it is to be enjoyed?
Doctor Who has taken a clear swerve towards science-fantasy, with a growing altitude of comedy. Perhaps this is necessary for a contemporary audience, but its disappointing. I dont wish to do an Eleventh Hour to Big Bang analysis of flaws in the writing and production, but they are present, and I'm sure fellow fans will concur?

Tried to watch the show tonight, sorry but I just cannot credit it at all these days. The Doctor used to be a Time Lord, yet still a subject of the Universe and governed by its laws. Now he seems to make them up as he goes and plays God into the bargain.
Bring back the cardboard sets and rubber suits - at least they had great story lines.

I'll reserve the same judgement until I see series six, where River's significance is finally explained. I suspect that there is huge chunk that we aren't privy to yet.

I agree, I look forward to discovering just what her relation is with the Doctor; its an intriguing teaser at the end of the episode!
Loved every minute of tonights episode, absolutely brilliant.
Now I go through withdrawals until season six starts.

Loved it!

As a long term Dr Who fan, basically from Pertwee onwards, I do like the direction this new series has taken, if the new Doctor hasn't created his own identity the series has failed. Matt Smith may not be a David Tennant but I do think history will judge him kindly. I was amused to see the Doctor in this series playing competitive sport and appearing half naked in the same episode, I am pretty sure they are Dr Who firsts and a nod towards the new fan base he has. Long live Dr Who and likewise I can't wait until next year.....I've been in the Amy pond appreciation line for a while but there seem a lot of people still ahead of me in the queue.;)

Ah yes there's something about a redhead with a Scots accent, must be the Scottish blood in me. :D
The 21st century Dr Who series are certainly deeper in story & emotion but there's something lacking that the old series had in abundance...cliffhanger endings.
Each story was 2-3-4 episodes long & almost always ended in a cliffhanger, they still get me with a smile & a laugh thinking good ol' Dr Who, life would be duller without it.
I guess today the average attention span has dropped to the point where multi episode stories are ratings losers...sad.

I love the good doctor... and I don't mind Matt...
But is it just me, or is the writing this season just a bit too... hollywood-ish? You know... cute... sugary... over-the-top...
One would think they're catering to the US market.
So .... what do we all do tonight at 7.30 when there is NO DOCTOR WHO?
I suppose Masterchef will fill the gap, a little.
We are back to no scifi on TV.

Its a disaster - my kids are moping and my son has been watching the DVD boxed set he received at Christmas - again.
I'm not sure how I will get the organised for school - "If you don't pack your school bag, you won't not get to watch Dr Who tonight" - doesn't work does it.

Well I'm set. There's a doco on Bobby Kennedy on SBS3, and I have 3 seasons of Midsomer Murders to get through!
Watched the final episode two days later, and thoroughly enjoyed it. For the pure entertainment factor, I thought the jumping around in time, and the young and old Amy's were great. I loved the wedding at the end! Not being a purist, I didn't find any glaring errors in the story - just good family entertainment fun!
