Newsagent rant

Been watching the adverts on TV about the "Build your own Lancaster Bomber" with much interest. So decided to go to the newsagent today and pick up the magazine. Yeah right!!!!!
I ended up having a few words with the manager.
Apparently we won't be getting the magazine in Roma due to it's not profitable to bring in to Roma. Apparently, according to the manager, the distributers of the magazine keep an eye on the sales/returns of magazines by location and if the returns are above a certain % then the distributers won't send the magazine to that location. What a load of c.......!
The manager won't bring it in on order ans suggested I try Toowoomba 350k away.:mad2:

Mate, did you read the fine print in those TV adverts? That model Lancaster bomber is going to cost you $1,850 by the time the series finishes.:eyepop: Your newsagent might actually be doing you a favour! I hope you're absolutely sure you want to commit to the project, before you get started on it.

No I hadn't seen the fine print thanks. SWMBO has told me to go to model store and see if I can buy the balsa kit instead or at least buy the plans. Now if I could find a Spitfire.....

Try an internet hobby shop - you'd be amazed how far model kits have come since we were 12...

Hi,

In today's terms a 1943 Lancaster cost about A$2.3M, which is $1906/inch of wingspan (102 ft).

Lancasters have become cheaper.

I agree with Matt, an Airfix model of the internet is far better value.

Far out, - that makes the recent Orrery in the 'Build a Model Solar System' seem like a bargain :lol:

The Lancaster might be a good bit of kit and fun to build, but honestly, that sounds like a bit of a rip-off imo.

Even better buy a small airfix model and use it to design and build a flying model from balsa and ply. I love scratch building, it's a lot of fun.

Did that years ago I wont say exactly what it looked like but other members of the RC club reckoned it looked like a demented dodo bird.
