Getting double vision?

Hey after ive been looking through my scope for awhile afterwards when I look up at the stars most of them ( bigger ones ) appear as double stars to me that are joined in the middle? This goes away after about 40 mins but does anyone else suffer this?

Cant say that i have noticed it myself Matt.
I,ll remind myself next time i go out observing.

Hi Matt,

Just a thought, do you keep both eyes open?

When you observe at the eyepiece you should keep both eyes open and cover the eye that your not viewing with, with your hand, but keep it open. This relaxes the muscles in both eyes and you will see more detail and not end up with eye strain.

To assist with this it helps if you get an eye patch from a Chemist shop to cover the eye that your not viewing with, but remember to keep that eye open.

Not sure if this is your problem but if it is then this should help.

Yeah I get some eye strain after a while, I found using an eye patch works a treat.
Plus if you need to go inside you can swap it over to preserve most of your night vision in your eyepiece eye...just don't walk into anything with cyclops vision. :lol:

No, but I have astigmatism in one of my eyes and I get blurred vision if I look through and ep' for too long.

As the others have mentioned, get yourself an eye patch....and a cockie to sit on your shoulder, for added effect:):P

A peg leg wouldn't be out pf place, either:):P

This is something that happened to me years ago after a viewing session. I would come inside, look at my digital clock radio and see a ghost image of the numbers. This would go away after about 15 mins. I then noticed that the time it took to go away took longer and longer following each session. Turns out I had astigmatism and was short sighted.

Im not getting double vision when i look at anything except when I look at stars with my naked eye's after spending time looking through my dob. mind you looking at the southern cross and seeing each star as a double star looks kind of cool while its lasts!:)

on a serious note, it's probably worth noting that any sudden onset of
weird vision problems like double images or anything unusual should
probably be checked out by a visit to the doctor, if only to eliminate
more serious causes.

Like Steve says mate .. check this out with your doc first .. and for the moment ignore all the other well meant advice .. not to say its wrong as such ..but a decent look at your vision problems at the least needs some scrutiny and advice a little removed from a message board .
