Kilcoy had CLEAR SKIES last night!! :D

Using the Mini Tower, I set up the Canon 20d and my new Tammy 90mm for some wide field shots.
Working with an alt azi mount, I had to limit my exposure times unfortunately.
This image is made from 72 x 40sec frames for a total of 47 minutes @ iso 1600, lens @ F4.5.
Still, I'm very happy with the amount of detail captured using such short subs.
One has to make the best of the equipment at hand.

Nice detail there! Well done. Try using RC gradient exterminator on it. It may balnce out the image abit.

I wish I had have just gone out and taken some pictures instead of driving myself up the wall and wasting 4 months trying to find the 'perfect' beginner setup. I actually think what I have now has a lot to teach me now I have started using it...

But in a strange way, the rain has helped - now when the night looks even a little clear, I have to get out there or else I'll have missed my opportunity for the next 2 weeks :D

I agree, a nice shot, and the concept of using what you have is great.
Is there anything stopping you bunging the TofT on a suitably angled mount, thereby effectively pointing at the pole. Sure a bit of dicking around, but the building of the aforementioned section of angled metal is pretty basic, and I am sure someone here could/would do it. Then you could go longer/deeper. Just a thought.

Gary, I'll have my eq mount back in my possession by next new moon. Then I'll be able to go long and hard on this area. Doing the lens full justice I hope.
As I said before, I'm just happy to be getting back into it.

While I do crave the time when I can go back to doing long exposures, there's a hell of a lot of satisfaction to be gained from pushing the envelope with the gear at hand.:)
