NGC3576 Loops

Got some good data in last night, and was pleased to get a total of 3 hours of H-Alpha data on this delightful object. Same URL as my earlier post (you may need to refresh the page to see the changes)

The extra data meant more subtle processing could be applied.

Now on to the colour capture! ...but judging by the clouds and waxing moon...could take a while....

Peter you can see the extra Ha it is progressing well this is going to be a terrific shot when its done good luck.

Impressive indeed, now that I know how dim it is. I took 10s of hrs of 20min subs 3nm Ha for a mosaic and in the end just gave up, too noisy (the loops), your extra apature must do the trick.

Most of the samples I see are in all NB and look great, so why not do NB?, then you dont have to worry about the moon.

It looks dull to me. The light pollution is showing and robbing the image of contrast. It should be
more contrasty than this when taken at fully dark site. Perhaps a narrower Ha filter would help.

Oh, Greg......You can shoot H-a in down-town, under a full moon with zippo loss of contrast.

As to whether you choose to alter the intrinsic contrast with processing, is up to you.

I choose not to do that.

Thanks Doug...I have to say this one has driven me a little loopy in so far as processing goes....

I gathererd a few more hours of data...did a little more processing...( or a Mike :) ) the updated version at the same URL (a screen refresh is recommended)

Definitely a lot sharper and contrasty overall. Big difference from the previous shot. A lot of details popped out in the core in both nebs and the arches filaments that were just not there before. Nice one. :thumbsup:

Agreed - quite an amazing object, and wonderful data coming to life there. Thanks for the education Peter.

I've just shot a few Ha frames of this tonight after my primary object disappeared behind the rear hedge, as not familiar with it. Only now starting to grasp how hard it would be to bring out details in those loops without blowing out the highlight regions.

Eagerly awaiting more on this one.

Nice one Peter. All the right ingredients. In particular, I like how you've managed the contrast of the highlights. Colour should add a pleasing dimension.

Sorry for the tardy reply, a tip o' the hat indeed to Jase, Rob and Marc....sorry I've been busy with other (automotive) projects.

There is quite a bit more detail in the full res data....but sadly not internet friendly....the colour work was off to a bad start.. Note to self: switch off observatory lights prior to imaging !
