That is so cool. There's a little red nebula (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/ngc4755_20090714_f.jpg)next to the jewel box that I picked up on one of my shot centered on alpha X. I though at the time it was just an internal reflection.

Yes, it's hardly a sack of coal... more like a bag of star dust

WONDERFUL IMAGE!!! So full of detail. More than enough to keep one occupied for hours just picking it all out.

Glad you all like it. Here is the panorama version with the Dark Doodad. It was a fluke that they almost lined up as the Doodad was from last week.

FoV 15.73 X 4.25 degrees. 6MB

Spectacular Bert. Heaps of stuff in there for future reference. Would love to get some close ups of some of the things in it.

All those faint stars and dust folks are below noise level with the sensor at normal ambient temperature. It is the HDR processing that shows both bright stars and very dim ones in the same crappy eight bit JPG and the fridge keeps the noise to a managable level. You should see the 340 MB TIFF. The HDR process also gives me the colours of all the stars as nothing is saturated.

Bert,

Amazing work, did you count how many stars there are in the image?

Thats excellent Bert,

You seem to be doing a fair amount of imaging of late, just wondering when you will of finish the southern sky survey you seem to be working on?

Trent,

P.S have you put a tap onto your super cold beer/camera cooler yet?

Great pic!

Could you (or someone) identify some of the features on the pic as for some reason I cant orientae/ identify the starssss.
Is the blue star center top Acrux? Double star?

Thanks Bartman

Yes, detail in the dust clouds and masses of stars! Will you be taking more shots to complete the mosaic?
