I was reading the post from Liz about saving old posts etc and decided it was a bout time I did a clean up on my old garbage.

While cleaning up some of my old documents I came accross this document that someone sent me years ago. Here is the contents:-

"There's more......

Try this with the OLD Excel 95 (not office 97):

1. Open a new file
2. Scroll down until you see row 95
3. Click on the row 95 button, this highlights the whole row
4. Press tab, to move to the second column
5. Now, move your mouse and click on help THEN about Microsoft excel
6. Press ctrl-alt-shift and click on the tech. support button simultaneously

7. A WINDOW WILL APPEAR, TITLE : THE HALL OF TORTURED SOULS.

This is really eerie okay... it has a doom style format and you can walk all around the hall... and on the sides of the walls are the names of the tortured souls....

8. NOW WALK UP THE STAIRS AND THEN COME BACK DOWN, FACE THE
BLANK WALL. You must face the center of the wall squarely.
AND THEN TYPE IN "EXCELKFA." What this does is it will open the blank wall to reveal another secret passage, walk through the passage
along the causway and BE CAREFUL! do not fall off, when you reach the end, you will see something really really eerie....

Countless witnesses all over the world have verified this point... It's really an eye "

I went through my old CD's and found I had a copy of MS Office 95. I installed it on a test partition in case it clashed with Office 2000 and followed the instructions.

Sure enough the hidden program came up. However I could not negotiate the causeway without falling off. The keys need to be pressed in short jabs to get you into the right position and I lost patience after about 5 minutes.

Has anyone else seen this.

Can't remember which version of Excel it was but in the late 90s there was a combination of cells to click and you could access a 3D realtime "credits" with the names of all the programers, like a flyby through a flat landscape and blocks with the names mapped. At the time I was working in game development and all the programmers shook their head saying "No wonder MS products are so slow! They've got a bloody rendering engine in there!"

I remember the flyby one, but haven't seen the Hall of Tortured Souls. Seems there were others, too:

Hi Marc
That sounds like the one. The "tortured souls" are the names of the programmers. I have heard of these "secret" programs embedded in MS software before but did not know if it was true or just a rumour.

I'll have to check that out Barry, I have an old copy of Office 95 somewhere.
