Jupiter in good seeing, April 19

Seeing was very good this morning, I was still capturing data up until
10 minutes before sunrise. For the last few captures I was manually
guiding as my tracking software had shut down - the sky background was
too bright for it :-) Colour balancing was a bit more interesting than
usual as a result...

This image is the second-last one from the session, 15 minutes before
sunrise. The grs is well placed and some interesting things are going on
in the neb, particularly the large white and red spots. There's also a
prominent whitish zone close to the south pole (bottom), I'm not sure
I've seen it this wide before.

On this monitor it even looks like it could do with a bit of extra sharpening.

Thanks Mike, it's already had quite a bit of sharpening applied, wavelets + deconvolution + unsharp mask at 5 and 2 pixels, I wanted to stop before I went too far :-)

Brilliant work there Bird,

So much detail, the small red spot following the GRS looks interesting against the background of the faded SEB and the detail within the GRS is interesting. I perceive some blue within the GRS, I think if you were able to image the GRS at the CM in similar seeing then maybe the thin blue line that we saw last year might be visible.

Great shot. The appearance of the Great Red Spot here reminds me so much of its appearance in 1973..very intense red and easily visible an a 6" reflector :thumbsup: As a 13 year old the view of this cemented my love of astronomy for life . I've waited a long time for it to become this prominent.

You must be getting some cracker seeing now. I am hoping for the same at Clayton this year. Time will tell though.
