It has been a while since I last got the telescope up and running. :)

This is my very first image with my new OAG system. So I was very keen to see how the rig would perform without a dedicated guiding scope. I fired off 10 minute subs and was very happy to find that the guiding was working flawlessly.

Imaged with C8 F/6.3, EQ6 EQMOD, Canon 450D, IDAS LPS Filter, 6 x 10 minute subs at ISO 800, ICNR Dark and Flats.

That's a fabulous shot and what perfect guiding. Wow.

My only suggestion it looks like it could take a bit of sharpening with the
right approach (not necessarily slam it with unsharp mask but selective sharpening
or deconvolution).

Very nicely done Matty. That's a challenging focal length to work from for anyone and you've done a great job. I second Greg's comment on the guiding, fantastic job. Spot on.

It does look a bit soft though and I was wondering whether it might be collimation or focus. I can see detail there waiting to come out. What did you do to focus?

Very nice final result Matty. The image shows all the qualities needed to show off Tarantula. Looks like you have got your OAG working well. I could never get mine to work so gave up on it some time back. I must try it again sometime.

On the other hand, what type of program will allow me to run a deconvolution on the image?



Thanks Rob. I can't describe how good it is to have the OAG up and running. I can finally put my frustration to rest knowing that I can get consistent round stars. If something drastic doesn't happen. :P



Thanks Paul. I'm positive it is not collimation as I check it quite regularly. I'm sure that I was a off on focusing. I do have a Bahtinov mask however I just achieved focus using live view for this shot.

I didn't really take great care in the focusing department on this particular night. :sadeyes:

Thanks Doug. It was a bit of a hassle getting it focussed at first, however once it is focussed you never have to worry about it again. I think it is must if you are shooting with a long focal length.

Images Plus has deconvolution as one of its tools and it handles colour images better than anything.
