Here is my first attempt at this target - due to my small sensor size I have had to select only a small portion of this target so I chose to go for the bok globules - this leaves my composition unbalanced but I am quite happy with the detail for a fist go.

The image is synthetic colour Ha - Oiii with (40*4 mins of each) - there was virtually no nebulosity visible in the Oiii frame (perhaps longer subs are inorder?) and I have not yet got my NB processing to the point where I can preserve star colours.

Hi John
It looks like the black point is really clipped?
And like you said, the stars have lost their colour.

It's a nice start though!

The globules really stand out well in this image.
Thanks for posting.

Trevor, the image was taken with an Opticstar 145m and I used astronomic filters, the camera had the Sony ICX285AL chip which is quite good in terms of sensitivity - but a little small for the 127mm F7.5 refractor I use it with - a better idea of what the camera can do is shown by this image...

Mike, I did have to stretch quite a bit but did not clip the blacks - I did notice the histogram was very steep though - I think because my subs were too short...
