Hi all

Where were all the astro-photographers and club-level beginners (club presidents note) at nacaa 2010 in Canberra? I know how big a part of our population they make up - most - and was amazed that these two groups were not represented.

If there is a perception that nacaa only welcomes 'experts' or is elitist, that's not the case. (If you're going to say otherwise, tell us if you were there in Canberra or not).

We had a great time, but the more the merrier...

Good question Alan,

Perhaps the next local organising committee (Brisbane et al) might consider an astro photography competition, and/or a hands on workshop, as part of the program.

Astro photog competition is a good idear. Maybe we could think of something for new-commers, too. I'll have a think.

Maybe you could issue a chart of a bright naked eye or small binocular variable and folks at the BBQ could make observations and the closest estimate to the true magnitude (as deemed by the judging panel) wins a prize. Being at Easter, this means it will be near full moon, but that doesn't really matter...

Keep those ideas comming, you never know, the Chair of the Programme Committee may well be listening ;)

I can recall 10 IISers. I expect there to be many more in 2012 (at least JJJeanette!)

i don't think a beeper box throwing competiton would go down well.......but don't forget that next easter we have a 5 day long weekend because it's around Anzac Day as well! Another day of TTSO workshops for new programs would go down well, how about a GStar users workshop?? I think i need one!

An asteroid occultation simulator like what RASNZ has would be good to run a comp off, to see how good your reflexes are!

I would live to go to this but scheduling it at Easter when family commitments intervene make it very hard to attend.

I would have liked more astrophotography content also, but there's very little of what I saw that I'd like it to replace :) So much good content :)

Such a great event. Just wish I could justify the cost of flying to them all :)

Hi Roger,
You could put a bid in to host it in Perth at the next NACAA meeting!
That will bring it closer to home for you and give me a good reason to fly to Perth other than to see Australia II in Fremantle!

:)

No thanks, that would put put me squarely in line for running it, and I'm done with organising astronomy things for a while, had my fill :)
