:hi: and :welcome: icemanswife.

Don't tell me he's got you hooked  What sort of scope is he buying you for xmas and how many Naglers? :D Make sure you get your fair share of time on that 350D

If you haven't decided what sort of scope you want I'd suggest a 14" celestron on a Losmandy Atlas mount with gemini, a 100mm apo Tak for a guidescope and the Canon 20Da camera for imaging. I'm sure if you talk to bird he will be able to suggest a good planetary imaging camera

Great advice there Paul :P

I only wish she was as interested in astronomy as that :)

My wife Kate signed up today.. i didn't know what she was doing but she even had to ring me to ask what her email address was.. then I get the notification of a new member signed up :)

She was obviously bored at home today, with 2 out of 3 kids at school/preschool.. she also said that now she's signed up, I have to learn how to cross-stitch or do something crafty! :scared:

I guess maybe now that she's a member she can PM me and save on the phone bill :computer:

hmm, I wonder if she's allowed to enter the xmas quiz.. :confuse3: :wink2:

I would panic if my wife ever signed up. I would have no secrets, she would know exactly how much I have spent, and she would know what I was up to.......... but on the other hand at least there might be more to talk over at the dinner table. Astronomy is taboo in our house in discussions with my wife.

Welcome Icemanswife!!

Welcome icemanswife,

We have a really nice community here on IceInSpace and everyone is willing to help with any querries you may have.

How did you hear about IIS?
Are you attending Lostock?

Your husband actually would enjoy cross-stiching while he waits for the avi's to process.

h0ughy
06-12-2005, 12:10 PM
Oh yes, I can see it now I have a cross stitch program that can convert jpegs to cross stich patterns and thread colour numbers Mike. I can see a lovely raised tapestry of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn on a silky black backdrop, mounted in a 3d frame      :P

I was wondering about the competition :confuse3: :confuse3: :confuse3:  ;)

Definately go in the competition Kate. And then when you win the Nagler hold out for as long as you can to get as much as you can for it. I should be worth at least a weekend away for two on Hayman Island :poke:

He is obssessed with astronomy related anything so I am trying to show interest and support and score brownie points.

Tom, i'm sorry I can't go into that.. the forum guidelines forbid it :)

I guess the good thing about Kate signing up, is that noone else can take the "icemanswife" member name ;)

Kate, you and my wife would get on like a house on fire.
She's into all things craft too and as for this astronomy stuff well ....

Actually she doesn't mind a look at the stars, except she gets dizzy looking up for to long.

It's great having you part of the forum.
Enter the competition, you deserve to win.

Don't listen to these other mugs, their just jealous their wives don't take an interest in their toys. Well I think it's a great idea you signing up Kate. You'll find a great link on supportive partners here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=3818&highlight=SWSMM

Besides it'll be great to have more of the fairer sex at astronomy night. I mean h0ughy and Striker don't look too bad under a dark star filled sky, but they just don't cut it for me. Gazing up into the star studded heavens with the wind a soft zepher, a curlew crying in the distance isn't quite the same with those two. It's probably the same with DP and ving, but I haven't met those two.

hmmmmm, i haven't heard too much from ice!

maybe someone else is hogging the computer!!!!

any suggestions for kate on how to image mars.

The item called a powermate 5x is for sticking in the ground so you can stand on it to reach the eyepiece. A 31mm nagler also is very good for this.
remove one wheel of the focusser and then place the toucam fits onto the exposed bit of metal. push it on real tight!!
don't worry about the tube, remove it and then line up mars with the mirror, place a piece of paper over the mirror and get the kids to trace the image of mars!!

funny thing is that they will take ownership over it whether they are into astronomy or not.

my wife will say, "can i look thru my eyepiece" ie the ultrawide. she likes it, she owns it!

if you ever take a mixed crowd out after a dinner party and have a look thru, i am sure kate will proudly show off her eyepiece which just so happens to the most expensive one in the case!!!!

all jokes aside, (full blown bachelors stop reading now!!) it is great that kate has taken an interest. My wife and I have played golf together before the kids and would love to again, but I am confident that she will get more involved. We have a dinner party with her friends coming over, so no doubt she will be all keen for the group to look thru "her" scope!

Hi icemanswife! Welcome to the forum :) It's great to see you showing an interest in your man's hobby. Hopefully one day we will be able to turn you to the dark side :D We definitely need more women around here. You see, astronomy is not just about equipment...ok well, it mostly is :P but reallly, it is a thing of beauty. The truth about these fellas is that they may seem tough on the exterior, they may jest in their posts, but on the inside, they're all a bunch of softies. It is this love of nature that really draws them into this hobby in the first place :)
By the way, my soon to be hubby thinks I'm a geek too, but he's a computer geek himself at heart.
