Hi all,
Here is an image of last night's Moon rising. It's a combination of 2 different exposures (taken with a tripod-mounted dSLR and 300mm lens), put together in PS7. I tried to bring out both the detail in the lunar disk, and the Moonlight reflecting off the foreground clouds.
I think I partially suceeded, but I'm not entirely happy with the result. What do you think?
Cheers,
Stephen

Looks pretty close to what I am looking at now. I'd say you did a good job of it.

That’s a darned good effort Steve – you’ve managed to control the light bleeding around the lunar disc very well, quite an achievement given how long the exposure must have been to record the clouds.

Thanks Michael. Glad you like it.
Thanks Dennis. I know you've done lots of this sort of thing, so your feedback is appreciated. I played around a lot with curves adjustment in both the background and forground (lunar disk) to try and minimise the light bleeding. I would have liked to enhance the contrast a bit more in the lunar disk, but this creates a dark edge near the terminator which makes the image look very artificial.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,
nice exposure.
You can try to blue the moon disk a bit on the edges. Maybe a 2px gaussian blur.
This will cause a more realistic effect. As you did the moon looks to be in front of the image, not to be part of it.

Nice work Stephen. I agree with Robert, too. It looks like it's pasted on a bit rather than part of the scene, but you've got a great start there!
