This did not turn out as I would have liked. These cometary globules
are small and VERY faint. They almost get completely lost among the
many stars. Spikes added.

You can make them out ok. I think you've processed this picture really well. Not an easy task. The background is extremely busy but somehow you've played with the globule colors and they do stick out of the "noise". Impressive field.

Those peski cometary globules are everywhere...when Tom Davis looks for them - lovely stary field that
The star spikes... while better than those produced by the original PS action they still don't quite look natural to me, maybe they should have been just a tad thicker and and ever so slightly more blurred..?
I tried the trial star spike program and while better and more flexible than the original PS action they still always looked not quite right no matter what setting I used...maybe it was just because I knew they weren't real..? I still think thin black cotton stretched across the objective of a refractor produces a more natural look.

Agreed. However, I can't just walk out and put the strings on ;)

Great image.
You get such great colours.
You're using Baader 50mm square LRGB filters right?
Do you get a reflection in the green filter? I noticed with
my AP140/155TCC/PL16803/Baader LRGB I was getting some reflections in the green filter around bright yellow stars.

Really nice... I think the difficulty with this would have been how dim the targets are against such a vivid starfield... They can be really hard to process...
I recently tried to image HMSTG44 (CG22) and found that to be much the same... It was incredibly faint and nestled in a sea of milkyway stars that made it excruciatingly difficult to process... So difficult infact that I scrapped the 5hrs data I had on it and went to a new target! :D

OUCH! But better to loose 5 hours of data than your sanity.
Tom, once again a great image of a tough subject, thanks for sharing.
Stunning field Tom, even with difficulties you describe. I suspect they would be invisible for most of us mere mortal though. Definitely another successful "dust bust"! :)

 yeh I figured that :)
You could have a simple crossed cotton cap made up that just slips over the objective and have the scope controllers in Oz put it on and off as you request

Funny, the feelings often mutual ;)

I have used Baader but these are 2nd Gen Adons. They give the exact same reflections as the Baader -- I see no difference.

Tom did you use Carboni's Starspike pro too add the spikes ??? as the spikes appear to be similar to those produced using this program however if not worth looking at as gives the ability to change length thickness number of spikes colour etc
Lovely image by the way regardless

Sublime Tom. Masterful technique as usual.
