Did anyone feel the quake?

I was sitting at my computer tonight around 7:15 when I heard the roof shudder. I walked up to the front room where my wife asked "what was that?" Apparently it was a 3.0 centred on Pearcedale, down the Mornington Peninsula way, 40km or so from Bentleigh.

Did anyone down that way feel it?

Maybe we are getting ready for 2012 already :lol:...i did notice it was a Full Moon too so the gravity will be at its maximum won't it :lol:.

I was out at Charleville working too hard:rofl: to notice if earth moved.
I was at Frankston in the 60's and we felt an earthquake not sure magnitude but certainly felt it.

If it was only mag 3 you may not feel it outside your postcode. There would be many people in the area who didn't feel it. It was just a geofarrt, not a real movement.

Hi All,

I remember vividly the Newcastle earthquake, the one in 1989 that is. I also remember the one that happend a few years later. I remember with the big quake one of the local radio stations was highly critisised when imediately after the quake they played the song "I feel the earth move under my feet", that was before they knew of the loss of life. I remember sitting in my bedroom and seeing the walls of the house sway. Very freaky!!!!!

I heard a roaring/rumbling noise like a low flying jet but didn't actually feel anything. I actually thought it must've been a plane, as I live directly under the inbound airway for flights coming in from Tasmania and New Zealand.

That was about lunch time in the office in Pitt St Sydney. One of the women was walking past me when it shook.

I still remember her words - "It's a earthquake!" - in a strong Kiwi accent.

I have vague recollections of being woken by a quake in the '60s at my parent's place, and am often reminded I nearly slept through a mag 7 in LA.

When they get high 6's/low 7's in the Banda Sea area we can feel them here in Darwin, enough to rattle doors & windows & make you feel a bit shaky on your feet.
That's something on the order of a 1000km away...Damn I'd hate to feel one of those babies up close & personal. :eyepop:
Think we get a few low frequency ones too, you don't actually feel them just notice the swimming pool is sloshing from side to side quite radically.

Sometimes Mother Nature has ways of making you feel very, very small & fragile.

Nope, nothing felt in Balwyn where I was last night.

Newcastle 1989, I was in a big conference centre hall. Everything moved slightly and the hanging lights swayed. Some people noticed.

I was sitting in Narita airport (Tokyo) years ago, when the whole place shook sufficiently to startle me. All the locals didn't even look up from their newspapers :)

Likewise nothing felt in Syd. I must say the freakiest thing I've ever experienced was a minor tremor in Tokyo about 4 years ago. Was on the 9th floor of an office buidling and it fealt like a giant gave the building a thudding shove:eyepop:. The locals had a chuckle and just got on with stuff :)

Yep we felt it ok - I heard it before it hit to - just a bit of a rumble - then the kids asking from upstairs why the house shook.

Apparently it was centred in the bay off frankston (Pearcedale was last week I think - the 24th?)

I was playing the good ol Commodore 64 in 1989 when the Newcastle quake happened, we lost power and the house shook, i was in St Mary's then, i was 10 yo! Ahhhh the good ol' days of Wizard of War and Bubble Bobble! LOL

I was playing my Commodore 64 too when the quake hit in Newcastle, if I remeber correctly I was playing Red Storm Rising, my fav game at the time.
