Given the numbers for the 10th might give it a miss and catch everyone at the Twin servos in may, might set up the scope at home on the 10th and fiddle with the thing over a few drinks (weather permitting).
Sorry Allan, enjoy the 17th.

I probably can not make it on the 17th, intend to go out west to Ilford if weather looks ok.
I can make it on the 10th if anyone still intends to go then, although the weather is not looking that good.

Hey Deeno, long time no see.
Can we interest you in a couple of days at lostock in may?
Prob won't be going to pc on the 10th (don't have a key). But will definitely be Lostocking it in may
Allan_L
06-04-2010, 12:26 PM
Arthur,
I have a key.
And weather permitting, I am going.
Just wish I had listened a bit more carefully (and taken notes) when a wise old owl was telling me how to turn water etc on.
Arthur Alchin
06-04-2010, 08:33 PM
OK Allan, weather permitting I will see you up there, what time do you expect to arrive?
Deb has a Uni assignement due early nexr week so will have her head in a book all weekend so i'm not gonna sit around all weekend like a shag on a rock.

Hey Allan how should i contact you to see if u are going? (of course if it is pi@#%$ng down i won't be packing the car)
I will be on channel 8 UHF once i leave home (approx 1500hrs) and will travel to tuggerah, down the expressway and then off on peats ridge road.
Might try and raise you on Ch 8 (simplex, not duplex) there (the only repeater we have on the CC that i think is operational is a Ch 5 Emergency, "out of bounds for general communication type one" at M.Mountain).
Allan_L
09-04-2010, 09:09 AM
I will travel the same route.
But I probably wont be there until 5pm.
Likewise, not unless reasonable prospects of observing something.

yep - you blokes just might get a night in
7timer looks reasonable
for the lights over the road - might be a couple of buckets in the club house if you don't take your own - the landing lights should go off on their own about 10-30 ?
if Geoff (gmb) doesn't get there, to turn the water on you need to turn the handle coming from the tank just outside the door to "inline" (in other words, same direction as pipe. then turn water pump switch on inside (near the stove) REMEMBER TO TURN THEM OFF WHEN LEAVING
hope you get a good night

Only six of us there, with one scopless, but with two imagers, one dob, one SCT and two 100BT binos there was a nice variety of views.
Thanks Arthur for the pies and use of the mount and Allan for the 100BTs.
Good to meet Robert for the first time.

It was good to get to the PC again (First time this year). Yeah I was the scopeless one, but that was on the basis that I couldn't be there too long (till 9pm) as my son came up to see what happens up there. Welcome to Robert . Whoever was firing the guns on the neighbouring properties frightened my son a bit.
Thanks to Robert, Deano and others for the views for us. The stars definitely looked steady from early in the evening and the sky clear whist we were there. It was cloudy at home when I got there. My son crashed out pretty quick when we got home.
I won't be at Lostock next month so I'll see you next time whenever that is. Take care all.

Can't wait till I get back home and get away from this northern hemisphere light pollution. I think America really needs to rethink their energy wastage!!! (so does australia!)
Other than that we have been having many clear skies here in Florida and getting around to see some great historical sights.
Cheers all.:)

The 'Owl Nebula' :P
Geoff
If you look through a beer bottle, to see the bottom, you would have to drink it first for me, and then another, and another, and.......;)
I will be missing yawwwwwwll at the PC that's for sure considering I have my new toy and no scope to put it in.:(

Well, another good night at the PC missed, thanks to my equatorial mount needing to be fixed...again, for the fourth time since I got it less than 12 months ago. :(
Actually I've had 2 new and 2 reconditioned mounts in that time.
Here's hoping it holds up for the next night at PC.... I'm havin' withdrawals. :P

Great night and a good little roll up.
Views were very nice, between intermitent fog.
But when they were on they were very nice.
Saturn was a treat.
Thanks to all who came, great comapny as usual.
Nice to meet Shane and Sue. Come again soon.
The cake was very nice thankyou.
Joe, apleasure as always.
Bones, good to catch up with you again.
Geoffro and GBT owl, it would not be the same without you.
I am not sure, but I think for the first time the SCT's outnumbered the Dobs.
See ya next month

Hey allan,
Im glad you got views!!
Up in the mountains at 1000m elevation - mother nature was teasing us!!
All clouds but spot views. When 10pm came around, it was myself, Alex and Peter left and decided to call it a night. As we were driving back - 3km later and the sky cleared up so good and seeing was magnificent.
Sooo, we decided to hitch it back and guess what... Clouds.. >:)
finally we decided once again to call it, and you guessed it. Happened again :P. but this time we really said we had been beat
Was fun and I hope to get down to the PC next time around again.
Cheers

Thanks for a good night guys.
I got some razor sharp views of Saturn, also very nice views of Eta Carina and Omega Centauri.
Weather wise..., could be better but the good company compensated for that.
Getting cold, starting a new thread about winter gear...

18-04-2010, 12:20 PM
yes Al - i felt a bit lonely being the only Dob on the block
apart from when it has rained, it had to be the wettest nite i have spent at the pony club
dew was horrendous at times
fair views when the cloud cleared - and of course , conditions appeared to get better when we had packed up
closed the gate around 1:30 am
good to see Bones back and keen to get the scope out
and yes, the cake was very nice thankyou , Shane and Susan - hope you can join us again
JOE! i will take that 21 whatcha-ma-callit eyepiece off your hands so it don't make the rest of your eyepiece case look ordinary

Great night apart from the DEW.
I am still drying out my gear now at 2.00 pm.
Funny things were happening with the fog too.
When the fog went....it went up and obscured the stars...then it came down to the ground again and obscured us....and this repeated for quite a while. Weirdest thing I have seen for a while.
We kept observing until we ran out of Sausage rolls and had to go home....
Thx for the cake Shano.mmmmmmmmmmmm.
I spent most of the night chasing doubles from my new Double star book.
Shano592
20-04-2010, 06:40 PM
No problem about the cake! Have to pay your dues... I thought there might be more people there, so I ended up taking the carrot cake home. The danish goes better with coffee anyway.
Joe, Suzanne is in love with your setup, but I still think I want to go to at least a 12-inch scope. If your Televue goes missing one night, and Geoff (Owl) doesn't have it, it may pay to check Sue's handbag.
Geoffro, those doubles were pretty sweet, I agree. Have you done the Carbon Star list yet? That's lying around here somewhere...
Inmykombi
21-04-2010, 05:15 PM
Hi Shane,
let me know if you find that list, I would be most interested.:D
