Hi,
I need to make a decision until Monday. I have one of the 2 mounts waiting for me...I need to choose!
I only make Astrophotography with my Tak FS102NSV and with my new C9.25. My camera is a QSI532WS and my mount a ATLAS Eqmod one. With this mount and the FS102 I make 30 mins subs without problem, guiding it with a FS60C and a QHY5 via PHD.
So between:
Losmandy G11 Gemini with the Ovision kit installed by Optique et Vision in France (the maker of the kit). PE estimated to be +/- 2 arcsec.
Takahasi JP-Z with no motors or electronics. Then could any motors and electronics from FS2, Boxdorfer,.....
At the end price will be the same.
What did you choosed?
Regards,
paulo

Yes, agree, and I should have qualified it a bit more. There is a lot to be said for the G11, it IS a good mount, but as most will tell you, the Tak is better. In my case the EM200 is all I will need, as long as I don't get too heavy with equipment. It is a manageable mount as well, something Hans touched on, the NJP/JP-Z/EM400 all are getting bigger and heavier, so if you have to move it often it could be an issue.

Mate Takahashi for sure!!!
The G-11 is over rated I reckon specially by **** coz they are made there.
The one I used for a few months put me off them for ever.
Taks are life time mounts--- if you havent used one yet when you do youll see why people just about never sell there Tak mounts.

Tough decision no doubt
For what its worth
I use my G11 to carry my C14 and image at F/11.
feel free to look at my website for some examples
It does a good job with this high level of weight

Hi Paulo,
I have used both mounts for many years and I know them well. The JP-Z is heavier but better built, more precise with tight tolerances in the entire construction, much more rigid and better suited for astrophotography than the G11.
The NJP JP-Z is comparable with the AP900 or a hypothetical G15+
Kind regards

I suppose it also depends on what one can afford at the time.

From my experience, with fiddling :P. PME, no fiddle,. G11, a bit of fiddling...., EQ5, expert mega-fiddle

Well, yes they can be compared, absolutely, the task they perform is well defined and not subjective, they make round stars or they dont.
The difference, in the end, is price and fiddle factor. Load capacity, PE, pointing accuracy, reliabilty etc just gets down to cost and fiddle factor, nothing else. The more you are prepared to fiddle for round stars, the cheaper it gets.
I deliberately gave a wide choice, because thats well.......what the choices are.
The EQ5 is not amusing, its fine for the price if it gives round stars with the OTA you have, not if you dont, or..........fiddle with it till it does, then its a great deal.

Hey I seen some great astro pics taken by people with EQ5 mounts!
Probably they have to work a bit harder to get great pics than some one with a PME but look at the price diff!!!!
If you dont have much money you have to ask if not having to do the extra work is worth a nother 15 grand!
Not if you dont have the money it wont be. :D

Your images are great . I went for the G11 bought directly at the Optique et Vision in France. It will come with the Maxon motors, the Ovision kit, FHD tripod.
Do you make photos with the C9.25? If you use a f/6.3 reducer could you tell me the sweet spot for it?

Paulo,
sorry, I had completely missed this post and your question.
I use the C14 on the G11 and I shoot at F/11
I will at times put the celestron focal reducer on it
I basically just screw it on the back of the OTA and put the focuser onto that then my STL 11000m
I am sure you wont be dissapointed with the G11.
It will handle the 9.25 very easily.
