IC2948 The Running Chicken in Ha

This is the first light for an image taken at my home since I moved.

I have fairly dark skies.

AP140 (F7.5) with AP155TCC (telecompressor/corrector) giving F5.7
with FLI Proline 16803 at -30C.

It is quite a wide field of view.

Astrodon 5nm Ha.

13 x 10mins.

I noticed there is a small planetary nebula in the bottom left near the 2 bright stars. It is not identified in The Sky 6.

Yeah I got this funny drop in my shot (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/IC2948_f.jpg)too and I thought at first it was some dirt on the lens but it is indeed there.

I got some colour as well but it seems to be a bit weak and also a bit of a halo in the green filter.

It appears to be a Planetary Nebula and it could be a target for a large aperture setup.

Great FOV, is this a new combo for you? Or have you used it before?

How do you deal with the cosmic ray hits in callibration?

If people can't finally see the running chicken in that shot then they never will :shrug:

Nice image - as always.

As far as the PN goes, according to Maxim DL it is catalogued as PNG249.9-00.6 Mag 14.4 RA 11hr 42m 07s Dec -62deg 32' 21". Had a quick Google too and that didn't reveal too much about this little treasure.

Thanks Mike. I have used this setup before but not very much. Perhaps one other image of Eta Carina. I had an exact adapter for the 155TCC for the U16M but it is 9.7mm too short for the PL16803. This 155TCC has a tolerance of +/-1mm, its quote exact. I jerry rigged my setup so it probably takes up 6mm so its slightly off. The stars in the corner (not really in this shot but in some other subs) have slight coma so I am close but not exact. I have an exact adapter on its way.

I planned to image with this setup a lot as its like a super FSQ with 140mm of AstroPhysics aperture. I also have an exact adapter for my FSQ106ED and reducer on its way for even wider FOV.



Thanks for looking that up Wayne. I didn't think I had discovered something but you never know. The Southern Skies haven't been catalogued as thoroughly as the Northern.

I have some colour. I may need to shoot more or rework the processing as I wasn't happy with the result so far but its not bad just not good enough.
