A few pics

Had family visiting from Victoria this week, so out visiting the local spots, and a few pics taken of course.:)
Most from Billabong Sanctuary, and others would recognize the bridge up to Paluma.
Grasshoppers taken at Big Crystal Creek, feeding happily in a hibiscus.

Yes, that is one gorg bridge, and was built in the early 1930s. Surrounded by bful streams and waterfalls, esp after the 180 mls raid the previous night!!

He would be bush tucker up here Liz,LOL. The other one i really liked as well is the OWL. Looks like a Tawny Frogmouth but i am not sure. Not up with all the species of birdlife.

Thanks Marc .... actually havent worked out what that bird was, but thought he was magnificent with that shaggy front, regal plumage. :)

Hi Liz,#2 is a Tawney Frog mouth(not an Owl) #5 is a Pied Heron(all scrunched up);)

The Tawny Frogmouth is related to the Owl
Tawnies are nocturnal hunters
They prey mainly on ground dwelling invertebrates such as insects and spiders, but will also hunt mice
During the day, Tawnies camouflage so well that they are nearly invisible in tree branches when they have their eyes closed and their head up
Tawny Frogmouths are quite common in the forest and open woodland across the whole of the continent
I thought they were an Owl, but no only related.

Aaah, thanks Duncan ..., so they are related to the owl. Interesting birds, and certainly owl-like. :thumbsup:

I have actually seen one in the wild up here and he had a tuft or crest on top of his head. Side on to the tree i could pick him easily but face on he was perfectly comouflaged.
Interesting characters for sure.
