Last night I gave my new FF a run on the ED80. Worked beautifuly. I have to tweak the spacing but I got a very significant improvement on the original field. The night was very good. Dry no wind and good seeing so I left the scope pointing south and kept shooting.
This is one of the DSO I targeted. IC2948 in Ha 20x5min with the QHY8 on an Orion ED80+ WO Type IV field flattener. Guided with PHD/QHY5 on G11. Bit noisy still. Warmish night and you always need more data :). The ED80 with this FF will be good on the field in dark sites to do RGB mosaics. Doesn't catch enough light in narrowband from home. I use the hyperstar for this.
There's a full frame uncropped here (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/IC2948_f.jpg) showing the full extent of the corrected field. Thanks for looking.

Very nice Marc...
I love this area in Ha or NB colours... Its an amazing, and largely overlooked area of the sky...
Its funny, until the Malin awards last year I'd not seen many (if any) images of the area, but since Martin Pugh's stunning SHO image of the area , this year the target seems quite popular in Ha, SHO and HaRGB... Good stuff indeed!

Thanks Alex. Yes it does come up real good in the hubble palette and both RGB.
Thanks Lester - Chicken tonight
Thanks Trev. Yeah the FF's ok . Just needs tweaking now. I use the Baader 7nm Ha filter. Got the whole baader set now, Sii & Oiii.

That's great. Please tell me I've finally figured out what the "chicken" is - that dark patch bottom right? It's smaller than I imagined.
So you're happy with the flattener? Looks good to me.

Thanks Frank. Yes, had to get rid of the cobwebs ;)
Thanks Tj. Yeah it does work well in Ha and Oiii. Sii is a bit of a drag. :)
Thanks Allan. Yes I think it is. You're right too. That's two chickens for the price of one then. And there's also a grey rabbit right at the bottom.
Thanks Jen.
Thanks Dave. It does too. If I focused right I could have picked up Tasmania you reckon? ;)

Thanks Mike. The flatter field makes things a bit easier to process.
