Hi,

Sorry for the unoriginal target choice - but I wanted to try my hand at narrowband synthetic colour processing and it is an easy target to go for. I have enjoyed the detail in the Ha shots I have taken but wanted to try for colour and have tried RGB, LRGB and HaRGB. I have had a lot of issues with all of those so I decided to try HaOiii (I do not have an Sii filter - yet) and James Cannistras Bicolour Narrowband technique - basically this maps Ha to Red, Oiii to Blue and synthesyses green. The result is attached. My result is not a good as I had hoped for but it is a start, it was about 30 mins of Oiii and 60 of Ha then the clouds came in...

Nice one John. You got some great details there. So did you do LHaRHaGOiiiBOiii inyour blend or RHa G(Ha+Oiii) BOiii? If you try the first blend you'll get a nice red and blue photo.

It is RHa, G(HaOiii), BOiii - I will try your suggestion but I think I need more Oiii data...

Trevor, it was taken with a North Group 127mm APO refractor with an Opticstar 145m CCD, filters were Astronomics Ha and Oiii, about 30mins Oiii and 60 Ha.

So this would be a crop no ?? what does the full field look like

I wish! That is full field, full res, the chip is the Sony EX HAD ICX285AL - 1360 x 1024 pixels (6.45um) and giving approx 1.4" per pixel in my setup...

Wow!!

I was basing my assumption on the fact I've got a 8" scope with a 7.8um pixel CCD and the FOV is way larger

I'll get used to how images should appear based on scope/camera eventually
