Hi Warren & Liz, :)
Cat 2 rating is not very bad but it is scary. I was in Cairns for cyclone Joy back in '90. It just stalked the area for three days.
No water , no power. At night was the worst. The house just kept shaking so much I was ready to bolt downstairs at the first cracking noise. Didn't happen and all cleared in the end.
I do not envy at all what you may be going through soon. Hopefully it will degenerate losing intensity quickly.
Take care you two.
Cheers Marty

Ului will cross the coast some 50 km north west of me at about 1 AM Qld time, with central winds to 175 kmh. As I write this, winds are gusting to 75 kmh.

Hi bob not sure if we have met yet I don't think so. Last I heard the winds are up to 200klmh and it might be closer to 4am
Warren Maag
Good one, mate. We are fairly fortunate at Ball Bay, as the cyclone approaches the bulk of Cape Hillsborough is deflecting a great deal of wind.
Cheers, Bobj.

Been following the progress live on the Weatherzone forums, which is just amazing in a way (being able to follow it so closely, I mean). Hamilton island certainly copping the worst of it right now. Good thing they evacuated nearly everyone off the islands. Reports are it will reach the mainland in the next hour. Looking nasty, its the real deal.

202km/h gust now recorded at Hamilton Island.
Pretty sure my mates in Bowen are about to get pasted big time, which sucks as they just moved there and are in the middle of renovating their property.

Yes they probably are. Eyewall just reaching Proserpine. Crazy temps being reported from inside the eye and people are wondering if they're true or just faulty equipment. Have to admit its been fascinating watching the progress, but the ground reports don't sound pretty.

Hi guys were are still here mackay is going to leave the distructive wind zone shortly we have kept power all night probably the only suburb to do so as we are on the Main hospital power grid and that is preserved at all costs its been pretty scary all the same the house has stood up to the storm real well and we are fine.

Thanks lots of trees down and flying tin that only just missed the house still very windy and lots of rain not game to go anywhere yet as conditions are still bad but I think the danger has passed. I don't know about Airlie Beach and Proserpine who got the brunt of the storm hope all are ok
Good to hear alls Ok Warren, and hope everyone else Ok from Bowen to Mackay.

Thanks Guys
We have glass in our front yard from a neighbors solar hart roof heater that took flight and crashed into another neighbors house. That was a close one.
All is good here though.

Hi Liz, Warren & Arc, :)
Glad to hear ya's are practically unscathed. Cat 3 starts to get really messy. I was a little worried about you guys an' gal when I heard it went cat 3.
We were all out dining with friends till late. Hard to fathom that you lot were going through that trauma at the same time we enjoyed a night out.
Our turn will come again I suppose.
Above all its good to hear you being OK.
Cheers Marty
Hi,
Still no power here, we are using a small Generator at the moment. Biggest tree in the yard just missed the house, I've been cleaning up for two days that's what you get for living in a green suburb hey. We just got touched by the destructive wind zone and that was frightening, I would not like to go through a cat 5. Glad to here everyone is alright...

Wow Mick I hadn't been out to the Harbour or seen these photo's pretty messed up out there
Thanks Marty,
We got power and our landlines back this afternoon. Good to be back.
Hey Warren - neighbours house is o.k. it took four of us to move the solar panel off his property and that was without the glass. Goes to show ya.

I know this is a long time after the Storm but this boat has been on the side of the road since the Cyclone and I have been meaning to take a photo of it I have no idea how it got here but I can only think that it got blown here:eyepop:
Didn't they have flying boats in WW2?
Look at the fence behind the boat. There is nothing wrong with it...what does that suggest?

Looks like it cost to much to take to the local tip so they dumped her on the side of the road.
Cheers Kev.
