Southern highlands observing

Hi everyone:hi:,

I am 14 yrs old and haven't been to any club observing nights yet.I was just wondering if any organised group comes to the southern highlands to observe as i live in the southern highlands and will be very easy for my parents to take me there.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at the Unanderra Community Centre, 7:30PM.
Observing Nights are on the Fri/Sat nights at last quarter and new moon weekends.

Hi Orestis,

There are several members of the Sutherland Astronomical Society (inc myself) who use a site near Bargo, usually on the Friday or Saturday night closest to New Moon. You'd be more than welcome to join us.

I'd class it as a "nearly-dark" site but reasonably convenient only 55 mins from home for me.

We were there last weekend (19th March) and would normally be there in April too, but all of use will be going to the Sutherland Astronomical Society Members only Mudgee Star Party over the weekend of 17th April -- so we'll miss Bargo in April.

We'll be back there in May.

I live in the Highlands and have been into astronomy for some years, but had a bit of a break the past few years. If you are keen for an observing buddy, maybe we can arrange something. Happy to come to your folks place. Am away at work at present and won't be home till early May.

Used to observe with the SAS mob at Bargo - can recommend it, but go early before it gets dark or you will never find the place!
