NGC2359 - first image in a long time...

The clouds here in Brissie finally parted for a few hours after what seems like four months so I got set up for some imaging. I had heaps of software problems for some reason but managed to get 22x4 mins of NGC2359 using the DSI II/10" Newt. before the rain set in.

Feeling quite a bit rusty but it's good to be back under the stars.

Really nice shot Peter. Guiding looks good and you have got longer subs than before. A really nice shot and more to show for the night than what I was able to do. Did you manage to pack up before the little rain shower or did you throw the tarp over the whole shebang?

Thanks for the kind feedback Allan. I was packing up when the shower set in but ended up grabbing the tarp for the mount.

I've had another go at processing using nebulosity rather than deep sky stacker and I think this has yielded a better image...

Good to see you back Pete. I'm still amazed at the images you are pulling from that tiny DSI2 sensor. I think the first image shows more of the arms than the second. When I looked from the laptop outside, they both looked like starfields, then I realised it has it's monitor cranked right down :) No wonder all images look like crap out there :)

When using your DSI II on the 10", do you find you can do without your Parracor, and only really need it with a bigger sensor like the DSLR?

Thanks Robin and Troy for the comments. I still think the DSI II is a great entry level camera if you choose the right targets. Astroplanner's object size and FOV page is really useful in this regard. I don't think coma is a big problem due to the small sensor size with the DSI so I haven't bothered with the Paracorr Troy.

That's a great Thor from Brissy skies Peter. Very nicely framed FOV and plenty of gentle detail.

Was certainly nice to stretch the imaging legs last night. I thought my filter wheel wasn't going to play for a while, so can relate to you frustrations. I hid under the tarps for 45mins too, then continued on for many hours in what turned out to be a good night. Let's hope its a sign of things to come once Ului departs.

Thanks Rob. I've seen some fantastic images of this object and have wanted to have a try for some time. I'm quite pleased with what I got given the location.

I noticed the skies cleared after that shower but I was already packed away by then. It sure has been a long time since we had some consistent good weather.
