While processing some wide angle photos I took last Sat from Johns Hill (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=26200&page=7), I noticed a strange halo around one star near the centre of one frame (I was shooting NGC2516).

It turned out to be IC2220.. (http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/IC2220.html)

It is amazing how many interesting things are lurking in photos, taken with relatively simple equipment (Canon 400D + Canon 200mm FD @ F5.6, 8x45 sec ISO1600).

Nice!

Good resolution given the massive FOV and the small angular size of the nebula!

I just missed it by about 4 arc minutes last time I shot 2516...

Another jewel: Thor's Helmet in Canis Major.
Exposure details are the same as before.
