Able 1060 cluster

Hi all,
weather has been just ok for the last two nights so decided to do a quick image of
this great cluster of galaxies.
You will note that because I have a male M42 -T thread adaptor from my H916 (old M42 thread)
to the SX filter wheel male T.. instead of having the camera direct mounted to the FW, I have these
wild star reflections... something different !
I actually don't mind it... reminds me of a fast refractor but with spikes;)

I'm at the correct distance to my corrector so not worrying too much at this stage, another camera coming soon.

As usual, could have done with more imaging time and much better conditions as the image
is a little fuzzy as well as my guiding was battling 40K winds.... even though sheltered in the
observatory, the wind buffets within at times. A bit of a gradient as well.

Must get this one again another time when things are better, heaps to see.

Lovely image Rich. The field is extremely busy and intriguing. Can't help but wonder if you applied any blue extinction weighting here. The blue channel appears quite muted. Its resulted a natural warm feel to it however. The diffraction spikes are great, gives the image a glam factor. Well done.

As mentioned, the stars are a bit mushy. Not much I could do with trying to over sharpen them.
On a whole, just lucky to get out.

Yes this is a great area for the galaxy lover. Like to get a decent summer where the blessed wind doesn't blow to get some of these summer targets with better results..:rolleyes:

I did actually apply extinction multipliers to my ratios, but over looked that I did have to do some gradient removal.. this I find from past experiences stuffs up any fine colour balancing...
I should know better than to post in a hurry before really looking at things with clear eyes the next day.
So I have had another look and agree whole heatedly with you here...
Soooo, have just adjusted things to look better, taking away that greenish cast about the central region.

Lovely shot Richard looks great:thumbsup: A awesome little piece of Hydra that, not imaged as much as it probably should be either. In fact it is already on my list of possible first lights for the PL16803...will be able to fit thousands of galaxies in :D

Did people notice NGC 3314 - lower part of image left of centre?...great overlaping pair of galaxies, here's Hubbles version

That is a great image Rich. Abell 1060 is one of my favorite deep sky objects, it is so nicely framed by the two stars and there are so many galaxies there! And yes, the overlapping pair is a great bonus.

Thanks Rolf, I haven't really had a chance to do this one in the past so it came as a pleasant surprise.
Always looking around for decent clusters, generally in and around Grus latter in the year.... but this area stands on its own. One I'll be coming back to in the future for sure.

Yes, due to the.... conditions, I did perhaps over sharpen selected components. But due to time limitations and what was dealt me I either left things very hazy or try to at least bring something to the table.
The devil or the deep blue sea :confused2:
