Hi
Have a look at Andrea Tamanti's site
The man built his own RC with carbon fibre tube !

This has been posted before (I thought it was amazing!)
The proof is undoubtedly in the pudding too.. Take a look at the images he's produced with the scope.. Amazing stuff... At F/8 its a bit slow for my liking... I'd go for 12" F/5 ~ F/6 I reckon, but then you would definitely need a corrector I think...
In any case, his scope is beautiful, a real work of art and the images it produces are pretty amazing... At A LOT less cost than any commercially available 12" RC's
Stunning website.
No excuse for Robin now either - he'll have to get to work with the expoxy resin if he wants a carbon fibre OTA tube! :P

Bottoms! Can't get on. Slow connection.:mad2: Does he use custom or 'off-the-rack' mirror / secondary?
If you want to DIY with a CF tube an American company called "puplicmissiles.com" supplies all sorts of sizes and specs.:)

Peter - Yeah I'm pretty sure (going from memory) that he used Star Optics mirrors.. I'll check the site and correct myself if need be in a minute...
The Publicmissiles crew make some really stunning CF tubes... I nearly bought one for my C11 XLT.. the problem was that it was $399USD for the CF tube, and 250USD to ship it here.. :( Big money for a tube... I'd hate to think about the shipping costs of a 12" diameter, 40~45" long tube for a 10" F/4.7 Newt or something even bigger.

Wrong - Guess again...
The optics were made by this Italian Mob.. (No, not THE Italian Mob..)
http://www.arietetelescopi.it/index.html
They seem to have a good range of optics, no cheaper than Star Optics though.. I know where I'd be going for RC optics..

"This Italian Mob" "The Italian Mob" - There's a difference? :)
Again, current connection too slow, but will try again. It'd be nice to put together your own 'compound scope with OTS parts. Not sure I'm up to any grinding/finishing tho'.
Cheers,
Peter
