Finally getting the hang of this Saturn thing. And I think I'm starting to get the hang of pulling out the colours.

These two photos were taken using different settings in WcCtrl (Thanks again Ice and Gary and Andrew) with toUcam. When processing them I didn't compare and they turned out pretty similar. Though I think I prefer my browner images. This one was taken and processed using K3ccdtools.

And the other one. Taken with ToUcams standard image capture (but using WcCtrl) and processed in registax3. Both had minor tonal and levels adjustment in PS. Comments and suggestions please.

They're quite nice - I prefer the smaller one, the CD is more pronounced in it.

cheers, Bird

Was the 2nd one artifically sized up? I think it's stretching it too far, given the conditions.. I agree with bird in that the first one looks sharper and nicer.

btw you can still use K3ccd and wcctrl - wcctrl just sets the camera capture settings, you can still use k3ccdtools to take the avi's.

Great shots though, that's the sort of Saturn i'll be very happy with when I get it. WIsh I had that image scale too :(

'tis true indeed.

Hey CH, the jupiter in your avatar, looks like it could use a bit of unsharp mask.. have you tried it?

I'll buy a beer for the first to image saturn as well as what I can see at the eyepiece :)

Paul your shot is starting to get close. Well done.

Just had a quick play in GIMP Ice, could only manage a few artifacts :confuse3:. Mind you I've got bugger all idea on what I was doing besides moving a few sliding bars...

Nice capture for both Paul, while the first image is sharper I cannot decide which is best. You can see cassini in both and they better than my best this year. Keep pluggin away.

Thanks guys.

The difference in the size comes about only because of the resoluction I set. The top one resolution is 352 X 288 and the second 640 X 480. I think I've gone just a little to much in the saturation. If I can get the colour about half way between these and my last shot I'll be happy with that.

Once I'm happy with colour balancing I'm going to start mucking around with a couple of other programs mentioned on this site to try and get much sharper images. Mind you now that I can see Jupiter at that ungodly hour, colour balancing takes on a whole new meaning. I could still be at it months from now.
